Some Good, Some Quite Bad,

This review is from: 7 Biblical Truths You Won't Hear in Church: ...But Might Change Your Life (Kindle Edition)
'7 Biblical Truths You Won't Hear In Church, But Might Change Your Life' is an interesting book that is also thought provoking. Unfortunately, it also contains at least one clearly unscriptural claim. Some of the lessons in the book are things that I do believe most Christians have probably heard in church. Three of these points are, 'God Doesn't Grade on a Curve', 'God Keeps Satan on a Leash', and 'The Ten Commandments Were Not Given To Be Kept'. In the case of the last one, many may not have thought about it in quite those terms, but the concepts are nevertheless pretty basic. The essence of that one is that no one is able to keep the law and its purpose is to simply show us how much we need Jesus as we cannot do it on our own. As David Rich writes: 'It's clear that God gave us the law to drive us to our knees - to the point of surrender.' Very true. Overall, that section is quite good. However, there are a couple of statements in that chapter that are troublesome to me. One of them is this: 'He (God) gave us His law to judge us and to entice us to sin at the same time.' That 'truth' is simply unscriptural. Perhaps Mr. Rich should read James 1:13: "When tempted, no one should say, 'God is tempting me,' for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone." God may test us, but He does not 'entice' anyone to sin. This statement alone is sufficient for me to not recommend this book. Some of his other topics are also controversial. His chapter entitled, 'Dead People Can't Help Themselves' seems to me to be pretty much the standard predestination line. I do not agree with that extreme position and the author's thoughts on it did nothing to move me more in that direction. Two chapters that I think may rile many readers are entitled, 'Trying To Live For Jesus Will Only Frustrate You', and 'Prayer Doesn't Change God's Mind'. Both are done quite well and make many good points. If it were not for the claims that God uses the law to tempt us, this book would rate much higher for me. As it is, I cannot recommend this book. Even one claim that contradicts Scripture and distorts the nature of God is enough for me to caution potential readers.

Not only have I had the pleasure of meeting and listening to David at Corp seminars I decided to purchase the book.I must tell you, I like a challenge and things a little off mainstream. Mr Rich tells it like it is. This book is on the mark, very much will challenge your thinking, and stimulate exciting conversation. Most of all, it's a good read. He is easy to follow, very direct and entertaining. Word to the wise** If you are mainstream, in the box, don't like controversy, Can't make up your own mind You have come to the wrong place

Good theology, poorly stated,

This review is from: 7 Biblical Truths You Won't Hear in Church: ...But Might Change Your Life (Paperback)
David Rich is clearly trying to counter some heresies that are common today. These heresies include Neo-Ba'alism (prosperity theology), Magic (the belief that God is limited, and that we can control God, such as bringing on the end times), and works righteousness. If he had read a basic book on Lutheran theology, he would have seen that what he was saying had already been said, and much more eloquently.

I was uplifted by this book...reminded that God is in control of every moment of every day...but...my understanding of prayer and some of the author's views do not match and it troubled me because the author didn't take enough time to prove his view with Scripture.

Challenges to compare your ideas to biblical truth,
This review is from: 7 Biblical Truths You Won't Hear in Church: ...But Might Change Your Life (Paperback)
David Rich dares you to read his book with "the fresh mind of a child," and to allow yourself to be driven to God's Word. In 7 Biblical Truths You Won't Hear in Church, he seeks to help you get away from easy, but not-quite-correct Christian ideas, and open your mind to actual biblical truths. Like what, you ask? Three of the slightly skewed ideas Rich wants to set straight are: God views some sins as greater than others; what I see in the mirror is the real me; and I can make myself live for Jesus. Rich is not the first person to tackle these thoughts, but, as always, they are revolutionary ideas straight out of the Bible.A basic book which will challenge you to think, 7 Biblical Truths You Won't Hear in Church is in three parts: an introductory section to encourage you to open your mind to actual Bible truth; the seven truths under study; and, suggestions for making these truths real to yourself and others. Professional speaker and author, David Rich heads the GraceCamp Ministries which introduces scriptural truth in corporate presentations and Christian retreats. Easily and quickly read, this book provides food for thought and a challenge to compare more of your ideas to biblical truth. - Donna Eggett, Christian Book Previews.com

I met David Rich when he spoke to a group of my co-workers. Not knowing that he was involved with any religious organizations, I teased him and told him he had missed his calling and should have been speaking in Church saving souls. He was that good. Well, he informed me, that indeed he had just written a book on Biblical Truths. I purchased the book and couldn't believe how much sense it made. I truly enjoyed it and have passed it on to many others. I recommend it to anyone who is looking to understand and comprehend the Bible more in depth, but in a simpilistic, easy to understand form . Read this book, it really could change your life. Amy Matherne, Monroe, LA

Anyone, anywhere who has ever questioned what it means to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, will find their answer here... and it isn't the answer you typically expect. I encourage everyone, but Christians especially, to pick up and read this book. It is a short and very concise read, but it packs more biblical truth in it than any other Christian publication I have ever read, other than the KJV Bible. You will discover the true meaning of Grace and the true spiritual purpose for your life, once you stop striving, and start resting on the finished works of the cross.

Caution and be warned.,

This review is from: 7 Biblical Truths You Won't Hear in Church: ...But Might Change Your Life (Paperback)
I have alot of reservations about this book. Its not one I'd recommend to my weak Christian friends. I would say I am strong in my faith. This book makes you question many things that you have believed. I am not saying its true or that I believe it all but it certainly makes you think. Parts of the book makes you feel good like a motivational speaker would. But others make you wonder whast the point in what I say or do. I don't know. Read all reviews carefully. I got it from the library. I wont be purchasing it.
