5.0 out of 5 stars Biblical Prints By Sadao Watanabe, April 16, 2010
This review is from: Biblical prints
I have the same book and just out of curiosity wondered what it was worth and if anyone else was selling it. I found it here for a whopping $599 but really, if you are a real fan of Sadao Watanabe's art, this is not too much and is a "must have" item. My book has a cardboard covering with a picture of one of his prints "Noah's Ark" on the front and is well protected. Once you slide the cardboard drawer out, there is yet another piece that is folded over the actual book made of the same material as a hard covering on a book. Once this is folded away, one can finally take the book (pictured above) in their hands. The only English writing is on the face. The spine of the book has the title and publisher's name on it. A buyer may want to inquire if the "coverings" are part of this sale or if they are only going to receive the book- I suppose still, it's a great book to have without the exras.

About the book- It is a bilingual edition (Japanese and English), made with excellent binding and thick, quality pages, actually authored by Sadao Watanabe AND Masao Takenaka. The first page after copy right information is a black and white picture of Watanabe as he is working. Next comes the table of contents (both in English and Japanese) which includes: List of Plates, Words From the Artist, A Word of Appreciation from Abroad (Endowment for Biblical Research, Boston), Sadao Watanabe- The Man and His Work (by Masao Takenaka), Bibliography, Plates (page 34-132), Catalogue of Works, Bibliographic Notes and finally, Corrections.

Because Watanabe passed away in February 1993, this book is not his complete work (printed in 1986). However, it is still covers most of his work. Once again, it is highly recommended. Certainly, it could be worth trying to talk the price down some, but because it is out of print and Watanabe is no longer with us, if you really want it, I would not let this sale go. You may never have a chance to own it if you do. I have entertained the thought of letting my copy go too but it really is a treasure and I would be remiss not to have it in my collection.

I hope that this information helps someone interested in this book!
