I have owned the PL-200 for some time now and I feel like completing a review in light of the only poor review of this product. There are two ways I will be doing this review. One will be for the average enthusiast and the other is for the up and coming audiophile. Take my opinion on the product for what it's worth and always do your own research before buying. However, I hope that my review is able to give you an idea of the product itself before buying.

-BIC Acoustech PL-200 Subwoofer (in short)-

The product you're considering a purchase on is to be considered along the mid-end line of subwoofers as far as the audio community is concerned. The sub is going to be considerably larger than an HTIB (home theater in box) subwoofer you have had prior and much heavier as well. This front firing sub has a 1000 watt peak 250 watt RMS BASH amplifier, a nice finish on the sides and front of the box complimented by a piano black finish on top. Also you'll notice that the sub does not take up too much room which will be pleasing when it comes to the `WAF'. HA! I have posted correct dimensions form BIC America's website below...

* Height: 17 ¼"
* Width: 14 ¾"
* Depth: 19 ½ "

-Sound Presentation (low frequency extension)-

The sound from the sub is nothing short of perfection for the price that you pay. You're going to experience deeper, tighter, and cleaner bass from this sub over any HTIB sub that you've had prior. Of course, this is all dependant on placement but we'll talk about that later. This sub is going to really standout with dynamic movie soundtracks which will provide a whole new definition to your home theater experience.

I bought this sub to replace the one that came with my Onkyo HT-S5300 HTIB system. I knew when I purchased the Onkyo system that the sub that came with that one was gonna be sub-standard. It is extremely boomy and the overall bass response is very muddy. If you listen to a movie such as Independence Day or 2012, you can forget about being able to truly enjoy the thrill of what those movies have to offer. It sounded like the woofer itself was going to come out of the box. During the scene in Independence Day when the aliens let loose the laser beam and destroy the Empire State Building, I thought the sub was gonna blow. I then played Independence Day with the BIC PL-200 sub and boy was I blown out of the water. As soon as they shot the laser out, I could not only hear the difference, but my best friend who lives next door called me up and asked if my house blew up. I also enjoy a lot of heavy metal from Slayer to Megadeth to Soulfly and let me tell you that this thing slams with authority. There is absolutely no boom or mud in my bass. I highly recommend this sub to any and all that want excellent bass for a very reasonable price. I would like to make a valid point that this sub does not come with an included cable and for good reason. Those cheaper cables don't give excellent sonic performance or signal transfer. I recommend buying a Monster Cable version for this. I have a Monster Cable and I am not dissatisfied and neither will you be.

Part 2: Jan. 28 2011- I have had a little less than 2 weeks with the sub and it is now official. I really made a great purchase. I have seen other people's comments about this sub and all I can say is, they need to get their ears professionally cleaned. I went to a few local dealers and listened to some Klipsch and Def Tech subs and I was not impressed.

I posted this "mini review" on a well known forum, seems there are a lack of reviews on this product, so, hope this helps.

Well, I finally got my PL-200 today. I have been testing and calibrating for the last couple hours.

I did a comparison of the PL-200 versus my Axiom EP350 sub. PL-200 = $329.00 and my EP350 = $758.00

The results surprised me, but not so much really. I will just go ahead say this. The PL-200 kicked my EP350's arse!

Now, keep in mind, I have much more testing to do. I first adjusted both subs to 75db using my digital sound level meter. C weighted & set to slow. The first thing that caught my attention was while running my test tones starting at 80HZ down to 15hz for each sub independently, was my EP350 would not even register any decibels at 22hz. The PL-200 easily hit 76db @22hz. I knew then the Axiom sub was in trouble.

Then I went on and ran MCACC at full auto, tweaked my levels, then ran MCACC advanced mode keeping the speaker settings.

I first played a lot of favorite songs, from the deep bass of "Peg" from Steely Dan to Dream Theater to Queensryche to Metallica's Black CD. The PL-200 filled out my room (4500cuft) nicely, no boominess, no muddiness, just clean well rounded tight bass. Kick drums hit hard and in my face. I pretty much compared a lot of songs with and without the Axiom sub.

I have each sub in the far corners of the room right outside my Axiom M80 towers. I must say I'm lovin the PL-200 so far.

Unfortunately, I only have 1 Blue ray disc at this time and it was Twilight New Moon. Not the best movie for lows. But, I'll have to wait for some more movies from Netflix to test the PL-200 further.

But what I did hear (both subs running) was nothing short of amazing.
