I like leather products, and I like to take care of my stuff, so the right leather care product is critical. I've used a great many over the years and have settled on two as being clearly superior: Bick 4 and Leather Honey (Leather Honey Leather Conditioner, the Best Leather Conditioner 8oz Bottle). They are quite different from each other.

Bick 4: I'm pretty sure this stuff is what North Beach Leather used to sell under their own name. It is a lanolin/oil lotion that really works. I use it bare handed, and my skin feels soft and good afterwards. It doesn't darken leather, and it cleans as it works if I wipe it up before it is all soaked in. I've used it on my wife's old Chanel purse, an Armani jacket, and some Coach gloves. In every case, it did exactly what I wanted, making the leather softer, more suppler, and feel great. It is easy to wipe Bick 4 off of areas it is unwanted, like plastic or metal.

Leather Honey: Leather Honey has a unique effect, making leather somehow feel denser and more hydrated. It is hard to explain, but it is very different than the effect of more lotion-like products, and I've tried a lot of them. On my favorite ten-year-old leather jacket from North Beach Leather, Leather Honey soaked in quickly in certain spots, and I added some more. After two hours, there was nothing to wipe away. The already heavy jacket feels heavier, better, and the results have proven to hold up and add more rain resistance. A new black leather feels more supple. A pair of black Ferragamos appear less abraded at the toe. Brown Sebago deck shoes certainly got more supple and soaked in a lot. The color darkened.

Bick 4 is an excellent conditioner/ preservative for all things leather!! And as a bonus- a little goes a long way because it is so easy to apply and smooth on.

I first purchased Bick Leather Condition to restore and protect the finish on some leather western boots that were about a year old. I had neglected them a bit, and the leather had that dry, fuzzy appearance.

I purchased Bick 4 on Amazon after a recommendation from a custom boot maker. I was told a little goes a long way, and that the leather item itself would "let me know" when I had applied enough. I first cleaned the boots off by wiping down with a damp cloth with a few drops of Dawn dishwashing detergent on it. I then let the now clean and damp boots dry overnight.

The following day, I put on a pair of dishwashing gloves that I use for household cleaning. I squirted about a dime sized dollop of Bick 4 onto my fingertips and rubbed it lightly all over one boot. I was surprised at how evenly the Bick 4 spread over the surface of the boot, and how quickly the boot drank it in. I applied a total of about 3-4 dime sized dollops of the Bick 4 to each boot. I let them sit for about 30 minutes, them rubbed them with a microfiber cloth.

What I noticed that there was virtually zero excess Bick 4 that came off into the microfiber cloth. I also noticed that the boots looked like they were brand new after the treatment! And I mean brand new!! It has now been 6 months since the Bick 4 treatment, and the boots still look great!! They have a soft glow without being excessively shiny.

After my positive experience with the boots, I used the same dishwashing gloves and the same light rubbing technique to treat my leather sofa set, leather interior of 2 cars, and 2 leather jackets.

I found a pair of $600 brown boots from two seasons past on sale. They were new, but a bit scuffed in areas. Also, when I got them home, I noticed the leather felt dry to the touch and had a whitish casting on the front of the boots, where they had been lying in a box. I love these boots and since this style is no longer available, I didn't want to return them. I started researching leather conditions. (I have never conditioned my purses or boots before.) After reading many reviews on different types, I decided Bick 4 sounded like the best choice. I was very nervous that I would complete ruin my new boots. (Amazon sells another brand that seems more popular but not all the reviews were positive.)
Bick 4 was easy to use. I used a soft, cotton rag (from an old bed sheet), dusted my boots off completely, applied a dab of Bick 4 to the rag and started working it into the boot in a circular motion. I didn't have a buffer, so after I applied conditioner to both boots (a few times because they were so dry), I took another dry, soft rag and went over the boot again in a circular motion. Let me just say, not only did Bick 4 condition my boots, it also seemed to wipe away the scuff marks. (I'm guessing the scuffs were due to the dryness of the leather.) My boots look and feel amazing now. I was worried about coloration and while my boots appear a bit darker, the color is even and I'm certain it's their natural state rejuvenated. I am thrilled with this product and will continue to trust it on my finest leathers!
