Book Description

25 Bicycle Tours in and Around Washington, Dc April 17, 2006
The completely updated cycling guide to the natural, cultural, and historic treasures in and around the Capitol region.

This edition includes new trails and tours and all the post-9/11 access information you need to glide right past gridlock and into the natural, cultural, and historic treasures that enrich this bike-friendly region. Longtime Washington, D.C., resident Anne Oman, a seasoned cyclist, writer, and historian, is your guide to the trails and the natural and human histories that shaped this region's gentle terrain and rich heritage.

Most tours begin and end at Metro stops, so you can leave your car behind and cruise along tree-shaded pathways to the monuments and resting places of famous, infamous, and ordinary Washingtonians; to places of Revolutionary War intrigue; and beyond the beltway to apple and horse country.

The 25 tours range in length from 7 to 70 miles and offer trips for cyclists of every ability. Each tour includes a map, mile-by-mile directions, and the fascinating stories behind the scenery and attractions along the way. 19 black & white photographs.

5.0 out of 5 stars 1000% on first three routes, November 6, 2011
This review is from: 25 Bicycle Tours in and around Washington, D.C.: From National Monuments to Country Roads, Third Edition (Paperback)
I received this book as a gift recently. I was leery for several reasons: I thought I already knew the good places to ride around here. And now there is Google bicycle routes; isn't that enough? And the old-fashioned photos gave away how old this book really is (Most photos seems to be from the early 1990s). Nevertheless, I did three routes in recent weeks and they all have been excellent. They have the kind of local knowledge that I could not figure out with just a good map. Today I did the Tridelphia trek (number 16 in the book): A gem on a beautiful autumn day like today.
