5.0 out of 5 stars Great pad, better than expected
I have always used foam pads in the past but lately decided to try an air pad to get a better sleeping surface. This Big Agnes Air Core pad surprised me. I had read the reviews but... I am mostly a side sleeper and was concerned that a 2-1/2" thick pad might not keep my hips and shoulders off the ground. I have slept on it about 12 nights now and I don't know how they do...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fine for a few nights, but
The Big Agnes was excellent at holding air and providing cushion from the hard ground, but it was slick, real slick! If you are on even the slightest incline, by morning, you can expect to be on the ground at the foot of the Big Agnes. Two more good point - easy to inflate and lightweight.

I am mostly a side sleeper and was concerned that a 2-1/2" thick pad might not keep my hips and shoulders off the ground. A nice compact design. Nicely made. Suitable for ligthweight camping in warmer conditions. More comfortable on rough grounds than normal pads . The "I beam" construction means there is no thin area where the surfaces are welded together to make the tubes. I was toying with the insulated model but in the end decided on this one as I have a air matress by Insulmat that I have inserted goose down for cold conditions though - I wish I had the Big Agnes at the time as the "I" beam form would be much better for down insulation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comfy and packs so small!!, November 10, 2009

I needed something I could carry on a motorcycle or backpack. I wanted a small pack size without sacrificing comfort. I have spent 3 nights on this pad and it keeps me up off the ground and able to sleep without waking with sore pressure points that I would get with my self inflating pad. It blows up in less than two minutes. I then bleed out some air to soften it a bit and still keep me up off the ground. If you move much when you sleep you will probably slide off of it with a slick bag. I have not had that problem. I have also not used it in cold temps. It would probably be better to get the insulated version if you plan to camp in sub 40 degree temps. It's also easy to deflate and fold to go back in the roomy storage bag to a size that is slightly smaller than a 32 oz Nalgeen bottle. The pad is made of high quality material as I would expect for a Big Agnes product.

I bought the Big Agnes Air Core Pad for my son for Christmas. He likes it and said it was just what he needed.
