I first heard "Big as the Sky" a few years ago on MTV in an episode of Real World: Las Vegas. I thought the song was catchy and did a little research to find out the band was AM60. I wouldn't really know what to call this band, but they are classified on my iPod as "feel good music".

Now I don't have this exact cd. There was a promo version on the website...

If you thought Jack Johnson was too light and airy, wait until you hear A.M Sixty. "Big As The Sky" is the kind of summertime fluff that will either raise your spirits or make you want to throw up. As bandleader Chris Root put it: "We make music inspired by sunshine, the beach, love, heartache, and other good music. Everybody gets that. We're just glad people here can get it now." Root was referring to the fact that, although from New York City, his band had to look across the sea to the UK in order to find a label. After a long European tour and a mighty struggle, the band finally finagled a U.S. release for their debut.

So here it is: infectiously sweet melodies; perfect harmonies; airy guitars; bossa nova beats; simple lyrics. It's all here, and surprisingly not as suffocating as you might think. The songs are generally quite good, albeit simple. The titles say it all: "Summertime Girlfriend"; "Big As The Sky"; "We Belong Together"; "Tonite's the Night"; and "She Follows The Sun" are just a few of the self-explanatory songs that make up the album.

"Just A Dream", one of the best and shortest songs on the whole album, demonstrates the overall feel of the album with its poppy love song lyrics. Root starts off by singing: "I'm thinking maybe that I met you in a dream/ when I'm with you/ life is too good to be true." Then on the chorus: "Is this just a dream/ or is it my reality/ when I wake up from this sleep/ will you still be lying next to me." It's incredibly catchy and fun.

If you think you can restrain your gag reflex and stop being so darn cynical, then you might just enjoy "Big As The Sky." It's certainly worth a shot.

Now I don't have this exact cd. There was a promo version on the website with the majority of songs on "Big as the Sky". The version I have is very good. The only real downfall is that the songs are less than three minutes. None the less, this is a great band if you're feeling...chill.

The best tracks?
Big as the Sky
In a Dream
Bus

It doesn't take long to fall in love with these quirky, unique band.

Just a Dream was featured in the Schwinn Bicycle commercial. The music is light, fun, relaxing, and uplifting. It is one of the top 3 CD's I listen to daily. If you like the song, Just a Dream, you'll love the rest of the album.

Almost every song on here is catchy and happy without being sappy. Root has a knack for punchy melodies, and while not the greatest vocalist, he's good enough. Highly recommended!

Summertime Girlfriend and Eyes on You. Both are fantastic pop despite the fact that this guy is no great singer by any means. Nevertheless- these 2 stand apart, are original and they just work. One unoriginal bit I need to point out though is that the begining drum and timpani riff of Summertime Girlfriend was clearly stolen from the theme song to Hawaii 5-0 and is not credited on the album. Anyone who likes girlies will know exactly what he is talking about on here when he talks about dedicating his life to his girlfriends tan lines- great line. And to the guy that dismissed this as beach music- beach music starts with the Beach Boys- don't insult the greatest band ever or the genius of Brian Wilson... who was clearly an influence here.

Summertime Girlfriend is the song on that Old Navy commercial where everynoe is dancing on the rooftop that they play during LOST breaks a lot on ABC. That's where everyone discovered this "band".

One complaint- great voice on the female vocalist- and because of the packaging you can't read her name!!!
