I'll admit, right off the bat, this review is not fair-- I don't like stream of consious narration (something the reader will have to adore to enjoy this book), I like editing. And I hate the overuse of Hip prases since by the time the book comes out the phrase is no longer hip. Also, if some heroine talks about her Jimmy Choos I automatically deduct 2 stars-. It's all...

And I hate the overuse of Hip prases since by the time the book comes out the phrase is no longer hip. Also, if some heroine talks about her Jimmy Choos I automatically deduct 2 stars-. It's all been done way too much- or at least use another shoe brand.

I was interested in this book because of it's title- "The Big Bad Wolf Tells All" sounded dangerous and sexy, but I was wrong. See Tansy's Rich and Beautiful and Brilliant and Talented and she's Glamorous and Sexually Liberated, and "poor her" all of her friends are married-- my solution, add to your friends! Include other single women! Ha Ha, that would lead to her feeling not so alone and even happier. No, she just tries to get out of spending time with her friends because they're trying to fix her up with Sheep types (the opposite of her favored "Wolf" types). Great, so she cuts her friends off. What a gal.

I'm two hundred pages in and I can't finish the dang thing.

I had struggled through 276 pages, and i finally just had to put it down, i did not like any of the characters, i did not care about the stalker, i did not care if Tanzy got hurt, kidnapped or anything! It was painful! i kept hoping it would turn out okay, but it was just terrible. I never put a book down without getting to the end, but in this case, i could not take any more of them! Very dissapointed in this book!

I am not one to leave books unfinished, so I plowed ahead with this one, but it would have been easy to walk away from this "Sex in the City" meets "Nancy Drew" groaner at any point in this thin plot. It very much reminded me of the dinky paperbacks I loved as a preteen, where the heroine always had an adventure of some sort and then reluctantly fell for the last guy she would have expected. The book borrows heavily from the character set-up of Sex in the City (although projecting the supporting characters down the altar) without the finesse -- I lost track of how many times the phrase "multiple orgasm" is used (the pursuit of which might be considered the theme of the book). If you want fluff, you'd be better off in front of the tube. If you want a thoughful, sexy, well-paced novel: you'll have to keep looking. How I wish I had!

Anyways, back to the book.
I purchased this book on ebay for a relatively cheap price and began reading it once i got it in the mail. Also, two of my friends have borrowed this book and absolutely adored it as much as I did.
The characterizations are awesome and witty lines are amazing.
It all starts when Tanzy (yes, that's her name, well actually, it's Tanzanita. Pretty bad, but name aside) has to house-sit for her Great Aunt Millicent. But, at the same time, her aunt has left Riley to stay in the house at the same time. As always, sparks fly. But is Riley a sheep all the way or a wolf at heart?
So, as Tanzy is trying to figure out Riley, SoulM8 steps into the picture. A complete stranger that begins to talk to Tanzy via e-mail. Is SoulM8 a harmless fan or a dangerous stalker? Read "The Big Bad Wolf Tells All" to find out...
and until then... HAPPY READING!

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun easy book, June 7, 2005
This review is from: The Big Bad Wolf Tells All (Paperback)
Although The Big Bad Wolf Tells All is not what a would call a literary novel, it was a fun and easy book to read that would be perfect for a day at the beach.

Tanzy never needed a man to make her feel safe and secure and she certainly never wanted to be in a relationship but life has unexpected surprises.

When Tanzy is threatened by an obsessed fan, she goes to live in her aunts house where unknown to her, is her body guard, Riley. To Tanzy, Riley is a sheep meaning that he is the marrying kind of man but she sees glimpses of a wolf. The type of man that is good for one thing, and one thing only and its not marriage. While Riley is protecting Tanzy, the attracting is undeniable and the sparks start to fly.
Smart and sexy are the two best words to descrive this book. Get a copy and just have some fun for an afternoon or two.

5.0 out of 5 stars Part savy chicklit & part sexy romance novel...., September 13, 2003
This review is from: The Big Bad Wolf Tells All (Paperback)
....and I loved every minute of it. Tanzy Harrington is a "B" List celebrity/romance columnist for an online magazine in San Fransisco's Bay Area. She claims there are two types of men in this world: the totally Alpha, dangerous, exciting wolves and the solid, dependable, husband material sheep. Tanzy is a beautiful, confident single women and she has left a trail of broken wolves' hearts all over the place. Even when all her best friends are settling down, she herself will not be domesticated.

Until.....

Her great-aunt Millicent suddenly leaves town and she is forced to house-sit and co-habitate with the mysterious Riley Parrish. Is he the dependable sheep or is there a sexy wolf lurking somewhere in there? You'll sure enjoy finding out. Of course this premis has been used a time or two, but Tanzy is a very original character so I'm sure you'll be able to be a bit forgiving.

This is the perfect book for a rainy day, or superb entertainment to combat all the re-runs on T.V.

Seemed like a cute enough idea for a book, but the implementation falls flat. Tanzy is pretty unlikeable as a character. If I read another book where the main character is a (supposedly) incredibly successful writer, I think I'll choke. I wasn't emotionally involved enough with Tanzy to care if her stalker got ahold of her or not, and I didn't care whether or not she got her happy ending with flip/flop sheep/wolf Riley Parrish.

And how did Aunt Millicent even know someone was e-mail stalking Tanzy to begin with? I never got that, and Millicent as a character was merely stock. It was all quite weak.

Donna Kauffman also relied heavily on the use of phrases like "damn if he wasn't..." and "she was damn fine." It seemed there was a "damn" on every page in this book. I think a writer with more than a few books to her credit could find some better modifiers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous--Need I say More?, July 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Big Bad Wolf Tells All (Paperback)
Loved it, loved it, loved it! I really can't say enough about The Big Bad Wolf Tells All (TBBWTA), it's one of the best books I have read recently. I happened upon The Cinderella Rules not too long ago, and enjoyed it so much that I sought out TBBWTA to see if it could also stand up to my rather stringent standards. Tanzy and Riley are intelligently written characters that I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know, and Tanzy's eclectic circle of friends reminds me of my own. Donna Kauffman is a fabulous author, blending romance with mystery and comedy into a genre that far defies traditional romance rules. I can't wait until Dear Prince Charming is released in August--buying it is definitely at the top of my To-Do list!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bring me a Wolf any day!, July 14, 2004

This review is from: The Big Bad Wolf Tells All (Paperback)
Join the wolf pack and pick up The Big Bad Wolf Tells All! In this romantic comedy Tanzy Harrington, online romance columnist, discloses to her readers why men fall into two categories, wolves or sheep, and how this directly impacts relations between the sexes.

Enter Riley Parrish, a man about who is as alpha-male as someone can get. Hired by Tanzy's great-aunt to protect her when a fan crosses the line into stalking, Riley knows that to be successful, he must be as bland as the sheep-men Tanzy professes to disdain.

Football jerseys, ball gowns, and dynamic conversation between the characters add to the growing tension. Find out what happens when two people realize under extraordinary circumstances what it means to be a "wolf in sheep's clothing".

This book started okay. So we've got a heroine with a newspaper column, she's going to meet with a sexy man who's not all he seems, and maybe some hot sex will ensue. Well. That's what I *thought* would happen.

Suddenly, in comes this secondary plot line about a stalker. Kauffman didn't put enough emphasis or thought into this for it to be decent, simply threw it in so that she could give the heroine some tender comfort and say it was more than just a boy-meets-girl chick-lit book. and as mysteries go, this one sucked, considering that the culprit only appeared in the book within the last seventy-five pages of the novel, and the only other suspect was far, far too obvious to have done it.

The heroine went on throughout the book about relationships, suddenly declaring all her woes due to family troubles, and then in the last half of the book there kept being long streaks where all that was going on was the main characters talking about how much they loved each other but how one feared commitment (although this never actually surfaced...) Okay, we get it, they love each other. I don't want to read a thesis on the subject. Not to mention that all the hype over the character's column seemed unwarrented, especially in the later excerpts. It's a bit like reading a very tame diary.

The male lead had his flaws, too. The secondary story-line between him and his father seemed overdone, and Kauffman went too far when she had to make him start speaking with an irish-accent half-way through. It's clear he's a fantasy man: he's a football player, private investigator, and he has a dreamy accent. *sigh.* Pick your poison, but don't mix them.

The ending was completely unexplained and anticlimatic. Very disappointing, all in all. Only read it if you have a lot of free time on your hands... like if both of your legs are broken.
