Sad thing about this CD is; the artwork's better than the music. It is. This could still mean that the music is great; if the artwork's pure art the music could still be at least 4-stars. But no. No. No. I picked up this CD today for $1, because I'd always wanted it and well, here was my chance. I gave this a spin, and the one word that popped up in my head was 'mediocrity'. This record is pure mediocrity. Big Ballers? Yes, just another No Limit clone coming to haunt us. Avoid.

I remember this cd(and the movie companion) being released in 1998, during the hay day of No Limit Records and their many clones. I also remember it being hailed by the Source Magazine and considered an underground classic...which I believe that it was to this day. Now at first glance, you'll look at the artwork and assume that Big Ballers Entertainment is yet another attempt to mimick/rip the No Limit fashion. Never judge a book by it's cover or a cd by it's art. From start to finish you have strong southern hip hop flavor(as was becoming in the late 90's and unique to the FL sound), the production was tight, the roster was full of lyrical geniuses, and even featured Trick Daddy and JT Money...I just want to know where all these peeps went after the album/movie dropped and blew up the South Coast for a minute...cause one word came to mind when listening to Mint Squad, Po Boy, and the rest...POTENTIAL. If you can find it for the low, this one's a keeper(and a reminder of when Southern hip hop was at it's best, production-wise and lyrically). My personal fav is "Dreams of the Ghetto."

I bought this cd because I use to love it when I was younger. It sounds a little different now. I guess it was good for that period of time. Now it sounds wack, but it was worth it. I enjoyed listening to the songs that I still like, that is only bout 2 or 3 out of the whole soundtrack. Never seen the movie though!

this cd is dizzope tight. Mint Squad and Po Boy and Family Ties set it off with tracks like this is how it's going down, paper chase, and ain't no stopping the south. my favorite song is this is how it's going down by the mint squad, it's got a good hook with a tight beat so if you have a little change get this cd Big Ballers!
