I grew up with a lot of big band music in my home. My parents both grew up when Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey and Artie Shaw and Harry James led fine orchestras playing top notch big band music. So, when I have a chance to listen to such music, it brings a nostalgic sense from when I was (much) younger. And the music still captures my interest and attention.

A sense of this CD, with 16 tracks on it, can be provided with a sampling of the works here:

Louis Armstrong and "Blueberry Hill,"
Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, "Boogie Woogie,"
Benny Goodman Orchestra, "Sing, Sing, Sing,"
Glenn Miller Orchestra, "Moonlight Serenade,"
Harry James Orchestra, "Trumpet Blues,"
New Orleans Jazz Band, "When the Saints Go Marching In,"
Artie Shaw Orchestra, "Dancing in the Dark."

And, one of my all-time favorites of the genre--Glenn Miller Orchestra and "In the Mood." That high energy work always livelies me up.

Anyhow, as with all collections, one might question why some items are included. Still, this is eminently entertaining and provides a sense of some of the fine orchestras of the Big Band era. Lots of fun. . . .
