Best Taiko recording I've heard!,
This review is from: Big Bang (Audio CD)
Even though Portland taiko is not as big as some other taiko groups in the US or Japan, this is one quality recording! Better sound quality than most of the recordings by taiko masters like Kodo! Taiko are instruments that produce a great amount of sound with very rich overtones and this makes it very hard to record. Portland Taiko recorded this one in a theater big enough for that amount of sound with a great sound engineer who obviously knew what he was up against. From the big drums, the big Okedo and Odaiko, to the little dums and percussion instruments, this recording is crystal clear and has great depth. The recording of the violin and bamboo flute is also very nice and well balaced with the taiko. This is my favorite CD for testing out home theater systems!

I've been a fan of Asian drumming for awhile. This is very enjoyable to listen to and professionally put together. I really liked the strings on track number 7.

I had the opportunity to see Portland Taiko live in a small venue recently. I cannot rave enough about these folks. Their technique and story-telling abilities are phenomanal.

I bought this CD so I could exercise to it. There is a new type of exercise called "Drums Alive" that uses regular balance balls and wooden sticks to exercise. I wanted additional music for variety. However, it's a great CD just to listen to as well.
