From Library Journal
A veteran of the travel business, Glendenning settled in Alpine, Texas, as an innkeeper. Finding that little has been written about this corner of Texas, he researched and wrote this traveler's guide about Big Bend, Carlsbad Caverns, Guadalupe Mountains, and other state parks in the region. Besides giving the major routes, the author provides alternate routes, mileage, fees, seasonal temperatures, hiking trails, and special events. Dining information details the type of meal one might expect, with prices. Lodging information includes phone numbers, prices, and when to schedule reservations. Also listed are sample itineraries from Alpine to the basic sites in the Big Bend area. While there are too few maps and some uneven historical information, this book is heartily recommended for public libraries.?Kathy Ellerton, Missouri Research & Education Network, Columbia
