I kinda like Bollywood movies, so I thought I'd check this out. I was surprised that it was a documentary. Not really my thing, but this was great! Omi is just your typical struggling American actor who gets a call to go to India to do a big Bollywood movie. His friends (smart move guys) decide to film everything. Omi is so REAL and natural. The movie becomes a huge hit and the population in India goes crazy for Omi. I love his reactions, and I loved watching how a different culture treats their movie stars. VERY entertaining and interesting!

I took a chance on this movie, having just read the summary. So glad I did.
This is an unpretentious documentary film about "working actor" Omi Vaidya making his big Bollywood break. We witness his obscurity to fame, in just a month's time.
Omi is so likeable and humble about the whole thing that sometimes his awkward self promotion leaves us feeling a little uncomfortable.
(Kudos to his good wife who takes the frenzy that ensues in stride.)
Great film, shot mostly by Omi's pal's. Brings a different perspective to becoming an overnight sensation, Mumbai style.

Was curious about this movie since we (husband and I) live in LA and have lived in India. WE were delighted by the show and recommend it to anyone wanting to watch a fascinating documentary- it follows a struggling actor in LA as he becomes HUGE in Bollywood.
Loved the pace of the show (not your usual sloooow mover low-budget film), it was well produced and truly a movie made with heart.
Watch it!

BIG IN BOLLYWOOD is an absorbing documentary that western fans of the massive Indian film industry should check out, if only to get a peek at the sheer spectacle of the thing and at what Indian stars are subjected to (treated to?) in terms of fan adulation. You think Hollywood idols sacrifice a lot in terms of privacy? Man, you have no clue how revered and how much in the spotlight every single day the Indian movie stars are.

Maybe you'd seen actor Omi Vaidya on American television before, maybe on an episode of BONES or THE OFFICE or CSI. Omi Vaidya, American-born, is a struggling actor in Los Angeles and, like thousands upon thousands of his fellow actors in L.A., he's just looking for his big break. In 2009, when he landed a plum comedic role in a Bollywood blockbuster (3 IDIOTS), he arrived in India with his mom and his wife for the big premiere. His four film student buddies came along and decided to film the whole experience. So we're right there as the documentary charts Omi's unexpected rise from a non-entity walking the red carpet to a recognized celebrity in India, this within a span of 170 minutes, the length of the playing time of 3 IDIOTS (plus intermission or, as Omi dubs it, "halftime"). 3 IDIOTS ended up shattering all sorts of Indian box office records, meaning that Omi (or, rather, the character he plays) became a household name overnight. Never mind that he barely speaks a word of Hindi.

There are recurring cameos all over the place. The cast and crew of 3 IDIOTS are prominent here, very much including superstar Amir Khan who ends up giving a nervous Omi stage directions at one point during the whirlwind publicity tour.

This is a really fun movie that surprised me and I want to recommend it. I am not a big documentary film viewer, but a friend asked me to watch it and I absolutely loved it. The way the story unfolds and the way it is told just made me melt. The dance scene at the end was the cherry on the top. Big thumbs up!

This is a feel good story, and I shared in the joy of Omi's experience. It was like being one of his buddies (who filmed his experience) and I was happy to be included.
