Book Description

Machinery Hill March 2000
There's nothing a Caterpillar can't handle. From farming to construction, Caterpillar is known as a leader in the agricultural and construction trades, helping build America's farms, roads, and buildings.

This BIG book presents the complete history of Caterpillar, covering all steam, gas, and diesel farm tractors, logging crawlers, and construction bulldozers and tractors from the 1860s to the present. The text combines with stunning color photographs, historical artwork, advertisements, rare brochures, and collectible memorabilia such as dealer signs and clocks to tell the whole story of this leading heavy machinery maker.

In addition, we've added an entertaining story well known to Cat buffs: The first Alexander Botts story about Earthworm Tractors. Also included is background on Cat's predecessor companies, Holt, Daniel Best, and C.L. Best, as well as a discussion of products from associated companies such as Russell Grader, Letourneau, and Trackson.

Also recommended: "The Big Book of John Deere Tractors," "Vintage Farm Tractors," "This Old Tractor," "The Field Guide to Vintage Farm Tractors," "Classic Tractors of the World," and "Vintage Ford Tractors."

Town Square Books from Voyageur Press provide entertaining, in-depth coverage of popular cultural icons, collectibles, nostalgia, and Americana. Town Square Books have an appealing balance of lively text, crisp full-color photography, and careful reproduction of rare archival material.

Review

Deals on Wheels, Summer 2005 (circ. unavailable)
“As one of the world’s most famous trademarks, this book does Caterpillar justice. Its balance of history and innovation, along with beautiful photographs, memorabilia and personal touches from the collectors who shared their passion for the brand, make it a really informative read.”
