3.0 out of 5 stars yum!
The only gripe on this book would be that there aren't many pictures. I am a person that is very visually oriented and is more likely to make the food if I have a nice picture showing what it looks like done. It has some nice easy recipes, and the cover is very nice. I bought this used and am glad I did because I am hoping to pass it along to my mother in law...

No color photos, but the very simple directions and recipes don't need 'em

5.0 out of 5 stars Bringing back supper, April 10, 2007
This review is from: The Big Book of Easy Suppers: 270 Delicious Recipes for Casual Everyday Cooking (Paperback)
This book is Vollstedt's effort to bring back the tradition of lighter suppers in the evening following the heavier dinner earlier in the day. This is how my mother-in-law cooks during holidays and I like this approach because you don't have a heavy feeling late in the day.

The recipes are easy to understand and follow and not intimidating at all, she took the term easy seriously when putting this book together. Easy does not mean boring or monotonous her recipes cover a wide variety of foods including soups, salads, sandwiches meat, poultry, eggs seafood and fish, pasta, vegetables, pizza stir-fries, grilling and desserts. Two categories salads, and pasta grains and legumes have both a chapter for main dishes and one for side dishes.

Although the focus is easy recipes there is a wide variety to choose from and it would be hard to pick up this cookbook and walk away without some ideas for a good and tasty supper.

This is an excellent book full of simple yet delicious recipes. My mom has other cookbooks by the author and really enjoyed them. Then she stumbled across this one and after I flipped through it, I picked up one for myself. There recipes are very basic and easy to follow and call for normal ingredients. Nothing exotic or specialized. Even my meat and potatoes husband enjoys what I have cooked out of this book.

I love this cook book. I use it most often. I have a lot of cook books, but this one has good variety and is easy to make. The ingredients are common, and I can find most right in my kitchen. I love to be able to look in my frig, see what's in there, get this cook book, and make something. I've tried many recipes, and been happy 9 times out of 10. Even my guests enjoy them.

I bought this used and am glad I did because I am hoping to pass it along to my mother in law considering I don't think it inspires me. I would suggest this to someone if they are the type that does't mind few pictures. I guess that I am spoiled.
