4.0 out of 5 stars Very good resource for all aspects of Halloween entertaining
This book has lots of great craft ideas for decorating for Halloween, as well as fun recipes for party food. Costume ideas were lame. Section on Halloween collectibles was superfulous. Ghost stories and folklore were an added bonus. A good resource for Halloween revelers.

3.0 out of 5 stars More fun to flip through than actually use as a "How to"
I'm always a little disappointed by any book that says it has it all, and the craft and recipe offerings in this book are either overly complicated or very well-worn. We've all seen painted pumpkins, graveyard pudding, and knitted pumpkin skullcaps many times before.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice easy projects for fall decorating., June 23, 2002

Nicely written and illustrated with color photos of virually all projects. Projects are not too complicated, but more decorative than scary. More fall oriented than strictly Halloween. I prefer Martha Stewarts book; it was smilar but more original.

What I do like about the book is the holiday stories and lore sprinkled in throughout the book, the list of "last minute costume ideas", and photos of vintage Halloween collectibles. The book is fun to flip through, but there's nothing much new I'd use here for decorating or party throwing.

3.0 out of 5 stars This book is "just okay.", October 2, 2001

Nothing real spooky in this book. It's more home decor and not fright. I was looking for a little bit scarier. And there weren't many recipes, not many costumes and nothing real spectacular. It seems like a Martha Stewart takeoff. I got one good treat idea and one good paper bag/candle idea and that's about it. I think there are a lot of other books that would be more worth buying. I was very glad I checked it out at the library first. That's what I recommend most. Go to your library and take a look at it first. I was glad I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas, August 12, 2000

Finally! A book that shows you how to make realistic-looking tombstones. (And not just a piece of grey-painted plywood either!) A lot of great ideas for the crafty, and not so crafty, person. Tasty party recipies are given, too. All projects have colored photgraphs included.

4.0 out of 5 stars A FUN book that gets you in the mood for Hallowe'en!, June 1, 2003

This review is from: The Big Book of Halloween: Creative & Creepy Projects for Revellers of All Ages (Paperback)
I love this book! The craft projects are beautiful, functional, and diverse, presented beautifully with great photography and art production value. Notes and articles about various aspects of Hallowe'en are interspersed throughout, making this resource much more than just a how-to book. It's a joy to look at, whether you're in the mood to read, create, or just look at great seasonal photos and illustrations.

For someone who loves to make the very best of my most favorite one night of the year, this book is a charm. The author has many cool, new and very creative ideas on how to decorate. She also includes brief ghost stories of legend and folklore. I know for sure Ill be using alot of her ideas this coming Halloween.

4.0 out of 5 stars halloween help..., August 26, 2000
This review is from: The Big Book of Halloween: Creative & Creepy Projects for Revellers of All Ages (Paperback)
"The Big book of Halloween" I think has some really useful ideas like Halloween doormats & creepy lighting that look very effective and creative. Some of the ideas tend to be repeated and I wasn't that impressed with the costume section as it wasn't very traditional it covered costumes like 'aqaurium tank' & 'bubble bath' costume without covering basics like 'vampire, witch'. However, a really good combination of ghost stories and recipes, decorations and little facts. A very good book to have on your bookshelf with wonderful atmoshpheric photographs of the Halloween season! Buy it!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was looking for..., September 30, 2008
This review is from: The Big Book of Halloween: Creative & Creepy Projects for Revellers of All Ages (Paperback)
I would love to find a Halloween decorations book designed for parents who work full time, and who do not have yards! We live in Chicago, and while we have parks, Halloween trick or treating is limited... and we want to find ways of jazzing up Halloween with little outdoor space to use, and also with limited time to make things. If anyone knows of a holiday sourcebook designed for the stressed out urban parent set, please email me!
