5.0 out of 5 stars A great resource!
"The Big Book of Home Learning" is the best book out there on getting started in homeschooling. [It] covers; how to get started, how to homeschool successfully, learning styles, homeschool methods, what to do in special situations, recordkeeping, and much more! Mary Pride also provides reviews(some reviews are written by other people) for all of the complete...

2.0 out of 5 stars Helpful and yet biased
I have homeschooled for 13 years and taught special education before that. I manage a library for a church homeschool group I co-founded. I have read and bought just about every homeschool book ever written. If you want lots of information this book is fine. But beware, Mary Pride's biases and ignorant views of some subjects limits the usefulness of this book. As an...

"The Big Book of Home Learning" is the best book out there on getting started in homeschooling. [It] covers; how to get started, how to homeschool successfully, learning styles, homeschool methods, what to do in special situations, recordkeeping, and much more! Mary Pride also provides reviews(some reviews are written by other people) for all of the complete curriculums from many of the popular companies. All of the reviews are in alphabetical order and are easy to find. They are also well written and really help you to decide what curriculums will work best for your family. I recommend this book to all new homeschoolers!

If you are thinking of homeschooling- this is the book to get. If you are starting to homeschool- this is the book to get.
If you want to research homeschooling- this is the book to get.

When I began to think about homeschooling, I started to research the subject. I began by talking to parents and every one of them suggested this book. So, I got it.

This is the book to have if you are considering homeschooling or just getting started. There is a lot of factual information in this book. There are reviews of curriculum, information about types of curriculums, suggestions for saving money, addresses, phone numbers, websites, and more. One thing I really really liked were the positive stories about homeschoolers. The success stories really motivated me and encouraged me in knowing that I too could do this.

I strongly suggest that you buy this book if you are going to be parent who homeschools.

I liked the information that she has gathered for homeschooling products. I have enjoyed the book and it will continue to be helpful in resourcing other websites and providers of homeschooling products. It is a very helpful book if you haven't put together a curriculum yet. There are some practical tips in the book, but it is mainly a resource for finding resources. I was looking for a scripted manual that could walk me through the setup process. Unfortunately, this book wasn't setup that way. This book is more of a reference guide. If you don't want to waste time searching on the internet this is the book for you. I admire the author's dedication to providing a resource for others.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have!!, February 20, 2007
This review is from: The Big Book of Home Learning : Getting Started: Introduces All Major Home School Methods & Answers Your Most Frequently Asked Questions (Paperback)
I picked up this older version at a library book sale for 50 cents. For that price, it was fine with me that it was a little outdated. The products that are reviewed are likely to only have been improved upon. At any rate, it gave me a good way to dwindle down the choices for curriculum to the ones I was really interested in, and start researching on my own from there.

This book is excellent! It is very informative and practical. It gives real practical advice rather than just ball park ideas. It's motivated me and helped me really feel confident in my own choices for running a homeschool.
