Stranger than Truth...,
By Steven Cain (Temporal Quantum Pocket) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Big Book of Jewish Conspiracies (Paperback)
As a non-Jew with Jewish friends, I found it highly entertaining, but it does seem to have annoyed a few people.
To me, the whole Jewish Conspiracy issue comes down to one question... If the Jews run the World and always have, how come Israel is the Whipping Boy of the United Nations?

The Big Book of Jewish Conspiracies,
By Mamma Moses (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Big Book of Jewish Conspiracies (Paperback)
I haven't laughed so loud and so frequently reading anything in a long time as I did with every chapter of this book. There is much to be said for the protective, mind cleaning effects of extreme satire, and to say the least, I think that any Jew who is genuinely concerned about the current new thrust of anti-semitism or gratuitous Israel bashing will find a therapeutic, hilarious haven in the telling of these "Conspiracies".Exposing the ludicrousness of the many age old and contemporary canards against Jews in this riotous, carnivalesque, off-the-wall romp is quite a feat, even if occasionally the footnotes may be excessive or some items not in the best of taste ( I would have otherwise given the book five stars).Highly recommended for anyone in need of lots of laughs, Jewish or not,the seriousness of the actual subject notwhistanding.

Neuman and Deutch hit a proverbial home run!,
By Brenda Liebling (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Big Book of Jewish Conspiracies (Paperback)
"The Big Book of Jewish Conspiracies" is hip, erudite, edgy, and, above all, hysterically funny. From "The Book of Profits" to "Let My People Go . . . On Longer Lunch Breaks" to "There's No Business like Shoah Business," Neuman and Deutsch use their keen knowledge of human history and human nature to puncture every myth promulgated by anti-Semitism throughout the ages.
And oy, those footnotes!!

The world's least funny Jews.,
By Robert Vohotek (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Big Book of Jewish Conspiracies (Paperback)
It's a shanda! I bought this book because I thought that with would tear down the myths always told about Jews - about matzoh being made from blood or that whole christ killing thing - but this is just a lame attempt at mad magazine style humor. It is not funny. It is tedious. Only the writers think this is funny. How did it get published? Was there an editor involved? I actually got a headache reading this book. I gave it to someone I don't like very much. This is not going to be part of the canon of Jewish humor. It is going to be part of the canon of Jewish sh-t.

Conspiracy Satirists,

This review is from: The Big Book of Jewish Conspiracies (Paperback)
This is a great gift book, filled with gags, particularly suited for those individuals engaged with the Jewish community or Jewish causes.
A great gift particularly for those concerned about rising antisemitism, as the authors underlying message is really to not take these hateful and absurd accusations to heart. A hysterical gift for someone who is actually engaged in conspiracy theories.

Mel Brooks Couldn't Have Done It Better,
By Jon Harvard (Cambridge, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Big Book of Jewish Conspiracies (Paperback)
I noticed this book the week it came out and I couldn't help but buy it-- I finished the entire thing in one hilarious sitting. The book is everything that a satire on Jewish hatred should be. And most importantly as with any good humor, especially satire, the authors-- the unapologetically Jewish and cool David Deutsch and Josh Neuman-- use acutally history to further their art. Every chapter is like opening up a new piece of the textbook you're hebrew teacher didn't want to read. Go out and get it.
I must also say, that I just recieved the newest issue of Heeb Magazine--this time it is the Sex Issue-- and it is just as scandously awesome as we would expect from those Heebsters.

Much Needed Breath of Fresh Air,
This review is from: The Big Book of Jewish Conspiracies (Paperback)
For all those who are sick of the PC cookie-cutter social norms we are crushed under, it is about time you pick up this book. What better way to detach yourself from the hypersensitivity of the world landscape than to read the witty, dangerously academic, satirical analysis of Jewish conspiracies?
This book is not only hilarious, it is practically a treatise about the phenomenon of myth and flies in the face of political correctness with tongue-in-cheek flair. A must-read.

Obviously, not all Jews are funny,

I read at least one book a month, almost everything I watch on TV is comedic and I'm the joker in my group of friends, so I think I'm an acceptable authority on what's funny. And trust me- this book isn't by the longest shot. It is an anthology of the most terrible Mel Brookes styled humor anyone can get their hands on. Though every fourth sentence is meant to be a joke, you will only smile every few pages, and only chuckle once every few stories. Almost every joke is just peppering ordinary dialogue with Jewish stereotypes (which isn't entertaining when your related to Jewish people- a joke isn't funny when you've heard it a thousand times) or it is just a bad adaptation of a "classic" joke you've seen a million times on TV or in movies. Honestly, the most funny line in the book is in the introduction where it states flatly that the book is a satire, and the authors know that somebody will buy it, thinking it is racist propaganda. You see, I was reading that paragraph in the History section of Chapters after thinking "why would they sell this if they refuse to sell so many other books (like Mien Komph)?" I guess the shop keeps can be included in that list of people who didn't understand the nature of the book.
But seriously, don't buy this book. If the pathetic attempts at humor wont make you put down the book halfway through (like they did with me), then the formatting will. The authors primarily write for a magazine, which would be my only reasoning for the ridiculous layout. You know how in magazines there will be important sentences duplicated from the body text and emboldened and put under a picture or wherever? That's what this book does, but it will put the duplicate text RIGHT BESIDE the original! Same size, same font. You will be reading a joke, and since the authors thought it was such a zinger (which I guarantee it wasn't- at least it wasn't so good that it needed to be duplicated) it will be transformed into a mirror copy and placed beside the original text. You'll go to read it and you'll say, "ugh, yeah, I already got the joke, thanks." And this will happen at least once a page. Also similar to magazine structure, there is almost no writing on any page! Minus duplicate text, one page has about as much writing as a paragraph from a normal book. If you could stomach the garbage that the book feeds you, you could easily read it in one sitting. It's easily one of the top 5 worst books I've ever read!

Great Book,
By Golem (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Big Book of Jewish Conspiracies (Paperback)
This book is a hilarious send-up of those omnipresent Jewish conspiracies that have been on the lips of gentiles the world over for thousands of years, as well as the whole "Big Book" phenomenon that is so prevalent in Jewish literature (and I use the term "literature" lightly). The writing is quite funny- the snarkiness and tongue-in-cheek attitude that makes Heeb Magazine so good is even better here. Definitely check this book; there's nothing like it.
Challah back!

Funny but...,

The intro was a bit lame. No need to tell us we're about to hear a joke - just tell us the dang joke.
I'd actually recommend this book for any non-Jew who's had an anti-Semitic thoughht. |
