5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best bodybuilding guides out there
Using Dr. Darden's book I was able to put on over 20lbs while actually lowering my bodyfat by 1% This book is a great guide for bodybuilders who need to get out of a growth plateau. A must in your library.

1.0 out of 5 stars Interesting read, but not HIT related.
I'm actually quite surprised that Dr Darden decided to write this book. It is not based on the Arthur Jones style of high intensity training, but it's based on Ken Hutchins "superslow" style of training. I've bought and read several of Dr Dardens books from Amazon because they are out of print, as well as consuming and digesting anything I can find relating to Arthur...

5.0 out of 5 stars It works!, May 21, 2011
This review is from: Big: Bulkbuilding Instructional Guide (Paperback)
Having been stuck fast at a bodyweight of 78kgs for 2 whole years, and despite my best efforts to exceed that weight, 2 weeks on BIG and I was 80kgs! It isn't easy and it isn't fun, but that is where the beauty lays as it takes hard work to grow bigger and stronger, and if you thrive on that, as I do, then you are in for a treat.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Authority on strength training!, August 7, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Big: Bulkbuilding Instructional Guide (Paperback)
While I eagerly await Dr. Darden's yet to be released publication, I have used the protocol espoused in this book since first learning of Ken Hutchins' remarkable findings regarding super slow training. I endured my first super slow workout in 1984 and still abide by the teachings of Ellington Darden. Nothing in the world of high volume lifting provides the level of growth stimulation achieved by slow, momentum free repetitions taken to failure(and beyond)!

Give up your preconceptions(usually misperceptions)about training and yield to the logic and science of Dr Darden!

Although the techniques revealed are ultra demanding, the results make the effort more than worthwhile!

4.0 out of 5 stars methods, June 2, 2003

While some may not agree with Ellington Dardens super slow lifting methods, all will have to agree that his views on diet and nutrition are sound advice for all lifters.

I'm actually quite surprised that Dr Darden decided to write this book. It is not based on the Arthur Jones style of high intensity training, but it's based on Ken Hutchins "superslow" style of training. I've bought and read several of Dr Dardens books from Amazon because they are out of print, as well as consuming and digesting anything I can find relating to Arthur Jones and his theories and concepts of HIT. This book is so far removed from Arthur Jones concepts that the book was completely foreign to me, and I suspect will be to anyone else who is well versed in HIT. Just a tidbit of info, Arthur Jones was asked in an interview about Ken Hutchins and he said that he has known of Ken Hutchins for many years but has never worked with him, nor has he been involved in the development of Nautilus or MedX machines, and goes on to say that he appears to be a pathological liar. Ken Hutchins apparently mentions extensively about working with Arthur Jones, but in fact has not. The interview is easily found online so you can read it for yourself. The information in the book which I hoped would further my knowledge of HIT did not fulfill my expectations. There are more pictures than words and the text is very large, so large in fact that it only took me about an hour to read the whole thing. Interesting concept in training, but if Arthur Jones debunks Ken Hutchins (who's research this book is based on) then I have no need to read any information based on his supposed research and training methods.
