5.0 out of 5 stars Why the 60's was know as the "free love" decade.
Even if you haven't seen the movie, you would appreciate this soundtrack album. It is a one stop shop for the 60's music scene. If you are young and don't remember the sixties, get this CD and you'll get the cream of the crop. It's got great artists like Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin, who shaped a generation. Be warned though, it will make you want...

3.0 out of 5 stars Maybe the Stones wouldn't cough up the rights.
Could be my memory's faulty. Could be the Stones wouldn't give the rights to the label. But don't I remember the movie starting out rolling a coffin down the aisle to the wistful cynicism of Jagger's scratchy tenor complaint, "You Can't Always Get What You Want". To prove the literal truth of the lyrics, the song isn't in either soundtrack.

No question about it, all the songs on here are great. However, you're better off searching for the expanded edition of this soundtrack, which has 4 extra tracks. It's out of print, but can be found in used CD stores. This soundtrack is often used to represent the baby boomer generation, but believe me, it barely dents the surface.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great music; greedy record company., February 1, 2001

There's no question, the music is wonderful, but for goodness sake, why is Polygram being so cheap? Both this and the supplemental compilation could easily fit on one disc.

4.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Always Get What You Want, January 7, 2008
This review is from: The Big Chill - 15th Anniversary: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This is the first of two soundtrack CDs issued for the movie "The Big Chill" (the other being The Big Chill: More Songs From The Original Soundtrack) and it contains the more prominent of the songs used in the film including:
"I Heard it Through the Grapevine" - this is the song played during the opening titles.
"Joy to the World" - this is the song played during the credits.
"Ain't Too Proud to Beg" - the song playing when the yuppies dance around the kitchen.
All of the songs from the film that are missing from this CD can be found on the other CD, mentioned above, with the exception of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" - the Rolling Stones song played at the funeral. This song is sorely missed from these soundtrack albums and its omission is apparently due to the fact that the Rolling Stones do not allow their songs to be included on albums other than their own. For people trying to obtain this song, it can be found on a number of Rolling Stones CDs including Let It Bleed [DSD]. Even without this song, however, this is still a great CD containing some of the best songs of the Big Chill era.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great collection of songs, July 31, 1999

This soundtrack is one of the best I have heard, where every song is a joy. If you are a fan of oldies or just enjoy being able to listen to a CD all the way through without having to skip any bad tracks, then buy this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Best, November 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Big Chill - 15th Anniversary: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
These are the songs you listened to as a kid, those that you hear on the radio and sing along to. These are the songs that everybody knows. Songs like joy to the world and I heard it through the grapevine. I would reccomend this CD to anyone; it is the compilation of the best of the best, and the only song missing is "Forever Young," by Rod Stewart.

4.0 out of 5 stars Now I Know What My Parents Were Talking About, April 26, 2000
This review is from: The Big Chill - 15th Anniversary: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
When I was in elementary school, I can remember this soundtrack playing in my house.....alot. At the time I didn't get what was so great about these songs. Now I am out of college, and I recently purchased this c.d. because of nostalgic childhood memories. I finally understand why my parents loved this album. The songs capture a certain time and mood, and as listeners, we are automatically taken there. All the songs are wonderful, especially "Whiter Shade of Pale". This is a wonderful collection of songs, that are sure to delight listeners young and old.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect soundtrack for a perfect movie!, September 19, 1998
By A Customer
I don't know how many times I've seen The Big Chill to date - it just makes me feel good everytime I see it, and it has become like an old friend. The soundtrack is the same way. Great old tunes that make you smile, snap your fingers, dance a little. I always pull out the cd when I need a little cheering & it works everytime. A must for anyone who loves Motown.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Soundtrack, October 24, 2002

The Orange Duke "orangeduke" (Cupertino, Ca United States) - See all my reviews
A fine classic rock comp if that's your thing, although, if that is your thing you probably have all these tracks already. Of course you might need
an instant `mix tape'.
