Normally when I buy a new CD I listen to the entire thing, decide which songs I like, and listen to those on repeat. With this CD I listen to the ENTIRE THING on repeat. There are not any songs on here that I don't enjoy listening to. Every song makes you wanna bop around and get up and dance. Big City Rock are an amazing set of talented fellas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Delighted, July 22, 2006
This review is from: Big City Rock (Mcup) (Audio CD)
It seems to be that I find my favorite artists when I see them open for other artists that I love. Big City Rock would be one of these bands that are at the top. I wasn't prepared to be awed by this wonderful group when I saw them open for Jason Mraz, but I was. The songs were catchy and I just wanted to dance. Especially for "All of the Above" when I surprisingly knew some of the words. I looked to my sister and my friend and they did as well. My personal favorite song would be "Human" which is very catchy and WONDERFUL to sing along with. Believe me, if you like music, you'll probably love Big City Rock. I know I do.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...because they are and they do, July 2, 2006

If the only song that you've heard on this album is "All of the Above," please don't buy it, because I promise that you'll be disappointed; there is not another hi-hat-dance-beat-doesn't-make-sense song on this album. Listen to any other song on this album and you'll hear it... Big City Rock can do anything. Every song is so different from the song before it; I think that's what makes this album so impressive. There's the obligatory radio hi-hat song, and an empowering song, and a song you can clap your hands to... just give them a listen; I know you'll love at least one. And uhh, don't forget to tell your friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Drving through the city, stereo is on..., June 23, 2006
This review is from: Big City Rock (Mcup) (Audio CD)
What an amazing debut album for this band! Big City Rock's music is like a blend of 70s piano rock and 80s dance music. I love it! This music is great to listen to while driving, especially with the windows down. All of the songs have great lyrics, which the members of Big City Rock write themselves, and very upbeat tempos. Everytime I listen to this cd, I can't help but to dance. I think the album is best described as a "get up and move" album. Buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Now this is rock!, May 23, 2006

For those who appreciate musical depth and talent and are tired of the lip-synching puppets that hog the airwaves, Big City Rock won't disappoint. This album features ten fresh, well-crafted, and well-played songs with catchy lyrics and harmonies. Lead singer Nate Bott delivers each song spectacularly well, with wonderful timbre and vibrato. (Another indication of his talent - he needs no studio magic to help him out since he sings just as well and in tune in the live performances I have heard.) All of the other band members - Andy Barr on guitar/vocals, Tim Resudek on bass, Frank Staniszewski on keyboards/vocals, and Kaumyar on drums - are equally talented in terms of musicianship and technical skills, giving Big City Rock polished songs and a solid sense of ensemble that is especially evident in live performances. With clean lyrics, the band's strong musical and technical background, classic sound, and creative musicianship, Big City Rock has delivered a wonderful album that you'll want to hear over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Anything BUT amateurs!, May 19, 2006

This may be their debut album, but the boys of Big City Rock
prove with this self titled release that they are anything
BUT amateurs! From start to finish the album is a mixture of
fresh new sounds and old school rock! Their words are deep and creative and their music is fun and innovative! They take you on an energetic journey and then wisk you away to a calm state of
mind over and over again, as the tracks shift from fast paced
party songs like "All Of the Above" (the first single off the
album) to mellow and slower love songs like "Better Place"
(track number 7). From the sound of this album it seems as
though we'll be seeing a lot more of Big City Rock. This band
has crafted songs overflowing with beats that will keep you moving and full of lyrics that will grab not just
young teenage girls by the heart, but the more mature adult
audience as well!!

5.0 out of 5 stars These guys should have been HUGE, August 16, 2010
This review is from: Big City Rock (Mcup) (Audio CD)
Now that's a real shame...when folks be throwing away a perfectly good pop rock band like Big City Rock. Their self-titled debut dropped in 2006 on Atlantic, featuring production from Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne), mixing by the famed Chris Lord-Alge, and high recommendations from Adam Levine (Maroon 5), who enthusiastically proclaimed Big City Rock (BCR) to be his favorite new band.

So what happened? Why hasn't anyone heard of them outside of L.A.? Maybe it is because their logo looked too much like the defunct Circuit City electronics store - who knows. All I know is that this CD has more hooks than a tackle box and rocks you with crunchy ear candy from start to finish. It is over a little too soon, clocking in at just 35 minutes, but what a ride. In addition to no filler melodic rock, their sound has a distinct 80s vibe that reminds me of Rock Kills Kid. Highlights include "Sink", "As Soon As I Find Out", and "Kind". My favorite is "All Of The Above", which should have put Nate Bott (guitar and vocals) and company on the map. If you like power ballads, check out "I Believe In You".

If you dig Rock Kills Kid, Rooney, or Click Five, you must hear BCR. You can get their CD used for one penny. Get it for cryin' out loud. Some of the band has moved on as The Remainers - maybe they will have better luck under that moniker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tremendous, April 28, 2007
This review is from: Big City Rock (Mcup) (Audio CD)
I scour Amazon for bargain priced power-pop and found a gem in Big City Rock. Every song is a winner and instantly hummable. There are no clunkers to skip past and they change tempo effortlessly without losing the listener. For the obligatory comparisons, there's definitely an homage to The Fixx. I also wonder why The Killers are huge and these guys aren't (they're probably thinking the same thing), but let's hope Big City Rock explodes soon so I can say "I knew them when..."
