Review

“Steve Schirripa makes the Tiger Mom look like a pussycat.” (Katie Couric)

“If you read one hilarious book about parenting make it Schirripa’s – or he will come down on you like a ton of… don’t you walk away from me mister… get back… oh f**k it, just read the book.” (Jon Stewart)

“Steve Schirripa's book “Big Daddy’s Rules” is wonderful and might help lots of parents be brave enough to put their foot down. This book is funny and insightful and I loved it.” (Whoopie Goldberg)

“I read the book like we agreed, Steve. Have to admit it's funny, insightful and unique. Now keep your end of the bargain. Come over my house and yell at my kids. Please.” (Ray Romano)

“I’m not endorsing this great book by Steve Schirripa, about being the father of two daughters, because I was intimidated. Well, not completely. OK, mostly.” (Jim Gaffigan)

“There aren't many men who can be smart, tough, tender, witty and insightful all in perfect measure, and who can also write so well. That would define the inimitable Mr. Steve Schirripa!” (Richard Belzer)

“Listen, I know Steve. Steve is actually crazy. But his kids are nicer than almost any adult I know. So I thought, maybe it’s a good crazy. Then I read this book. No, he’s actually just crazy. But he figured out how to make crazy work for him and his kids. Which is more than I can say for the rest of us.” (Joe Rogan)

Big Daddy's Rules by Steve Schirripa is a funny and honest account of the author's life raising two girls. Known for his acting skills as being a tough guy, Steve Schirripa shows readers that he can give excellent advice to parents out there, too.

Big Daddy's Rules is written by an actor of one of my all-time favorite TV series - The Sopranos. I was really excited to read this book, because even though I don't have kids, I am at that age where a lot of other people my age have kids, and certain things that parents and kids do annoys the (insert curse word here) outta me, too.

First of all, I have to admit, Steve Schirripa is truly funny. I honestly didn't know he was this hilarious. He also writes very well. The entire book is easy and fun to read. I found myself laughing out loud and agreeing with a huge percentage of what he comments on.

This is a great book for all parents out there to read, and hopefully they'll learn a thing or two from it, so Steve Schirripa won't consider them one of those parents who need to be slapped. I highly recommend it.

* Thank you to the publisher of Big Daddy's Rules, Touchstone, for providing me with a copy of this book for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Known for being an actor, Steve Schirripa tells the story of his life as being a dad. His old school rules and advice and his humor make this a perfect self help book for any parent of girls, especially teenage girls. His definition of Big Daddy is someone who is strong, devoted, and always looking out for his girls even if it means he is not the cool dad.

This book is informational but so funny and enjoyable. I have a tween and a teenager, both girls. The stories Steve shares in his story hit home with me. The stories of his kids pushing for more freedom, of dating, and of fighting were almost exactly the story of my life. I got ideas on how to react and how to approach some issues. As a mom I saw a lot more of my husband in Steve's reactions then myself in his reactions and thoughts. They made me laugh and shake my head.

I absolutely loved this book. I laughed, I cried (when he left his daughter at college), and I read... and read...and read. I could not stop. Anyone, Mom or Dad, who has teenage girls will relate to Steve. This could be labeled as self-help or parenting, but it is so much more. I will certainly recommend this to my fellow parents.

Great ideas and nice stories but I could not finish the book because of the constant profanity that dominated the story.

Fellas,

This is the manual for how to be a good dad and still keep your man card :)
This book espouses that a dad is not just a bigger mom who doesn't shave. He's a different cat altogether. Schirripa suggests that men embrace that....AND keep their sense of humor.
You'll probably recognize guys in your family who show their love in this old-school way.
At the very least, it's a good chuckle.
