It's an exceptionally good introduction to big data. Don't expect to see a whole lot of deep, technical detail in this book. They're not there. But if you just want to grasp the concept of big data, this would be the book I'd recommend you purchase. Usually books are overpriced or priced just right. In the case of "Big Data Demystified" the book is actually worth way more than the $2.99 I paid to read it on my Kindle.
The book is a simple read -- great for airplane rides or a free Sunday afternoon. I wanted to finish reading this right before the Big Data Conference this week in SF, so I'd have some working knowledge of what people are talking about when they say "Hadoop." If you are having a hard time choosing an intro book on Big Data, I would highly recommend this book. Very well written, simple to understand, and it is filled with relevant examples, making it very interesting to read.
The author teaches well with human case studies using Big Data to explain:
- Why a picture is worth a thousand words
- What data prospective partners look for on dating websites
- How IBM's Watson computer is helping diagnose and treat cancer
This is an essential read for anyone who wants better understand the topic of Big Data and how it is impacting, science, business, education and many aspects of our daily lives. Big Data Demystified presents an accessible starting point for developing a framework for understanding the complex, fast moving topic.

The worthwhile content in this book is probably 8-10 pages. The rest 180 pages are elaborations of that to give it a shape of a book.Published 16 months ago by hassan
