I was a junior in high school when I bought my first copy of this. Back then cassette tape was the big thing, and CD was only for the rich. MTV HeadBanger's Ball was the hottest show in TV, and long hair teased way up was a "fashion do".

For quite some time, Killer Dwarfs stuff was nearly impossible to find. But now someone in the record business has done something right. This, the 3rd album from the Dwarfs, is undoubtably their best.

It was the success of their independent album "Stand Tall", what an ironic name for an album recorded by a bunch of guys going by the name Dwarf, that allowed this record to be made. "Stand Tall" is still an unavailable, but hopefully it will soon be rereleased.

Hard rock it is, but with a pop twist. Good writing is what raises this album over many of the one hit wonders of the time. Even if most of the tunes on this one didn't get mega air time, all the songs are catchy.

Listen to the samples, if you've gotten this far, you probably were looking for Killer Dwarfs anyway....

This is a great record. These guys can rock and the music is well written and well played. This is a fun record. Tell me please, Desperados, and Startin' to shine are the highlights but there is not a bad song to be found. I found this to be the antidote to BonJovi, Winger, Poison and other fluff. In my humble opinion., these guys were up ther with Dokken, Crue, Ratt, bands that had some talent and balls. A shame this record didn't sell a few million, it's that good. Buy this gem, you'll thank me. Give er', dunk!! rock on....

"Big Deal", their 3rd album, was originally released in 1988 and was named after the fact the band finally signed a contract with a major record label (a big deal!).

This re-mastered version also includes as a bonus the first 6 of 12 tracks that would appear on their 5th album, "Method To The Madness"; 5 more show up on the re-mastered version of "Dirty Weapons".

"Big Deal" finally allow the band to make a better produced album, with commercial polish and catchy songs. Their style reminds me a bit of RATT, early MOTLEY CRUE, and FIREHOUSE, with no keyboard textures. It contains the small hit "We Stand Alone".

Grab this one if you like good rock, good singing, without getting into the "metal" genre.

Originally released in 1988, Big Deal was the third studio album from Canadian melodic rockers Killer Dwarfs. It's a shame this band never made a bigger impression, because their Ratt meets Quiet Riot brand of party metal should have gone over quite well in the mid 1980s. Perhaps the band's goofball image kept the average hair metal fan at a distance.

You listen to an album like Big Deal and have to shake your head. I mean, here is an album crammed full of polished, ready for radio, melodic rock songs that would have been huge hits by just about any other band, but coming from Killer Dwarfs they're completely overlooked. Maybe image really is everything. Oh well, at least the dedicated `80s rock fans know to search for this band's albums. We're the ones who get to blast "Breakaway" and "Power" and wonder what might have been.

Anyone still interested in 80's hard rock and metal really ought to have some Killer Dwarfs in their collection, and while Stand Tall is the ideal starting point, Big Deal is also well worth checking out.

Edition Notes: The 2000 reissue of Big Deal features half of the band's 1992 album Method to the Madness as bonus tracks (the other half is on the Dirty Weapons reissue). The inclusion of these tracks makes no sense to me. I know Method to the Madness is out of print, but why not just reissue the album separately? It just seems odd to me. Also, as best I can tell, the album was not remastered for this reissue, so it doesn't sound as good as the Stand Tall reissue.

The Killer Dwarfs are...well...Killer!!! This band is so under-rated it makes me sick. I feel bad for them because they deserve a lot more than what they got. Killer album by the way. I love Breakaway and We Stand Alone. Buy this album and support this band! You wont regret it.
