4.0 out of 5 stars Broke after 3 days at beach
The digger met all expectations, until it broke. It gave our son the hands on feel of what the big earth movers do. He loved it, but it only lasted three days! He is 45 pounds and 4 years old. The scoop bent away from the arm and broke. He wasn't in clay, just sand. The scoop needs reinforcement--our neighbors child has the same problem.

2.0 out of 5 stars Durable but not Sturdy
This toy is durable in a sense that it will last outdoors, etc. However, there is no safety feature to keep toddlers from falling off as they try to maneuver the handles.. Also, both of my children had there fingers caught in the mechanisms on two separate occasions. good luck .

The bucket is made of folded sheetmetal with 2 tack welds to keep the folds in place. Well, the tack welds broke easily, so the sheetmetal started to unfold until you get a piece of sharp metal flapping at the end of the arm mechanism. Good luck trying to find a manufacturer phone number (you get Breyer horses instead), customer service number, replacement part number, ...anything??

My autistic son has played with this faithfully & aggressively moved dirt, clay, sand & gravel, and even his smaller metal earth movers for over 30 days straight now. He weighs OVER 60lb and this toy has yet to show signs of stress, bending, or dents. He has shared it with all his friends as well.

I read the posts about the quality of this item and how well it holds up. And I have to totally disagree with all the negative issues.

However, I guarantee should a grownup try to play kiddo and get on it, it will indeed bend & or break. It's a toy made for a small child and must be appreciated for what it is. Just keep daddy & uncle off of it, and the big neighborhood kids and it should last years.

And honestly evey rideon toy for a toddler is made WITHOUT seatbelts & harnesses. You wouldn't think twice when your child falls off his little tikes pony or rocking horse so don't complain about this. It's barely off the ground so if there is atumble it's not nothing to freak out about. But you can pile sand and or dirt around the base if you feel the need to secure it some. Or get a welder to beef it up some so that Daddy can play on it too.

Great toy for a toddler who loves to dig in the dirt. Teaches coordination also. Our 4 year old grandson loves it.

My three year old nephew loves---LOVES---this toy. He chooses it when he has any number of other toys that he could choose to play with at any time. It has helped with his coordination and gives him plenty of exercise!!!

This has been none stop fun for my five-year old grandson for the past 7 months. He started with it indoors using legos and other small toys and as soon as the weather got warm it has been outside exclusively. It has been a big hit. It is well made, especially the digging arm itself.

We gave this to our son for his 3rd birthday and the scoop broke the next day. Too bad, because he LOVED it. Great concept, poor construction.

My Son uses this in his mulched play area. While his brother is going up and down the slide, my youngest will be sitting on his 'digger', working away! The only downfall is that I though that the Big Dig would be larger. We were initially disappointed when the box arrived. Once we put it together and got it outside, everything worked well. Bigger would be better but for the price, I can't complain.
