Great Beginning Reader,

This was the first book that my daughter read on her own, and what joy she had on her face when she read the last page! A wonderful use of simple words and repitition makes this a great book for children just starting out to read. I wish there were more books like this one! Catherine, mom to Caroline

I am the author's son. The picture's area great, and I like the story. It's really funny, and I think your younger kids will enjoy it. If you send my mom a book, she will autograph it for you free. Your friend, will Canin

Great Level 1 Reader,
By
This review is from: Big Egg (Step-Into-Reading, Step 1) (Paperback)
So many early readers out there are so different from each other even though they each label their book as Level or Stage 1. This book is a beacon. The words are short "Hen has some eggs". The font is large. There are only 2 to 4 words per line and no more than 2 lines of text per page. Best of all, this is a real story with a plot that has all the requisite parts, and a touching, reassuring ending to boot. Refreshing in light of all those mislabeled early readers and those licensed characters out there making our children into advertising fodder, this little story, easy to read indeed, is original literature and also a satisfying read for beginners. We are going to try Hot Dog by Molly Coxe now to see if it is as good.

My 2 year old daughter loves this book!,

As I am typing this review my two year old daughter is looking at the picture of the "Big Egg" book and saying "Big Egg!" Each night we read many books together. She picks them out as we go. I can always tell which books she prefers based on the order in which they are picked. "Big Egg" is always one of the first books to be read. She loves the simple language and colorful pictures and I enjoy reading it to her repeatedly. It's fun to "act" out the different animal voices the Hen encounters on her search for the parent of the "Big Egg."

Fun easy readers that motivate children to read,

This review is from: Big Egg (Step-Into-Reading, Step 1) (Paperback)
I purchased these books for my 5-year-old daughter who is beginning to read on her own and these Step Into Reading books are excellent as they have a high-interest factor that motivates her to read. The stories are also wonderfully illustrated in full color. This particular story has an "aww" moment, as hen finds a large egg amidst her clutch of regular hen eggs, and wonders whose egg it is, going around the farm asking the other animals if it belongs to them, until she encounters a sly fox!
These Step 1 series are recommended for preschool-K - the stories are in large type and the vocabulary is easy. The stories are also in a rhyming format which makes them easy and fun to read. The full color pictures also provide contextual clues as to the word being used in the text. These early readers have raised my daughter's confidence level in reading, and she is doing so well that I'm purchasing the Step Two books (Preschool-Grade 1). I use these books in conjunction with sight words to reinforce her recognition of common vocabulary.

One of the FEW kids' books on Kindle that actually works. We need more Kindle books like this!!! Thank you Mr./Ms. formatter for making the Kindle experience actually coherent unlike many of the other "Step Into Reading" books.

Great for Beginning Readers,

I have twin three-year-old boys, and this is one of their favorite books. They won't sit through many books, but this one really caught their attention. They memorized the book after two or three readings and love reciting it with me. It is very engaging.

Fantastic first book for my preschooler to read herself,

This is the first book (ever) that my 4.5 year old read. She had been showing interest in reading, knows her letters and letter sounds so I got this book. Voila! Twenty minutes later with much prompting and encouragement she sounded out all the words in this book. My only objection is to the word "one" which is tricky for a first timer.
