One Big Fine Debut, January 8, 2004
This review is from: Big Fine Thing (Audio CD)
This is a really incredilble album from a band that was never given a chance. The only reason I ever heard of Darla Hood was because they were included in a Warner Bro's compilation right before the release of Big Fine Thing. The 1st single I heard was 99% Bulletproof, it was how I feeling at the time (shortlived but good just the same)and I was hooked. I could not find the album for 3 months after it's release (I live in NYC) so thats just beyond bad distribution. Every song on this CD is strong, though a few stand out as truley exceptional, "I Got Pictures" has some of the funniest lyrics on the album as well as being the only rock and roll song I know of to chronicle mafia turncoat Sammy "the bull" Gravano. "New York City" captures the isolation of a city boy trapped in upstate New York without a damn thing to do (except write music and little else). "99% Bulletproof is just an awsome rocker that can peel the paint off a 68 Camaro. Buy this album and share it with your friends, Darla Hood deserve the recognition (even if they are no longer a band).

A talented band that needs to be heard, June 11, 2003
This review is from: Big Fine Thing (Audio CD)
Just great rock n roll, not commercial [stuff]. Well crafted songs with a heavy riff. This isnt music that is made to excatly fit into a certain mold, not music that is made to just make money. I have been trying to get people to listen to this band for years and once they do they dig it. I like a variety of music. These guys know how to write music and play it. Please all we need to support talent like this, not the [stuff] played on radio today. the Prisoner

Not enough recognition but worthy of it, July 28, 2000

I am afraid Darlahood falls under the category of one of those bands that make good music but their record company fails to promote them and help them be successful. This is a very good cd with well crafted songs and a delightful little song called "RSVP." It is more or less a guitar rockin' song with some lyrics thrown in. That is kind of unheard of with the type of music they play(alternative guitar rock, let's call it). If you want a comparison, they remind me of Brother Cane, Goo Goo Dolls, and some Collective Soul thrown in for good measure. This cd came out in 1996 and do not think they are a band anymore. That is a shame, record companies do not know what to keep or throw out the window. This
