5.0 out of 5 stars Make Room for Big Frog
I'm a pretty big fan of Mo Willems and pop-up books, so to have a Mo Willems pop-up book is like a hot fudge sundae with a cherry on top.

2.0 out of 5 stars Big Frog Does't Last.
I just got the book in the mail yesterday and read it. Cute,I thought but not so much a fan of pop-up books. The reviews on this book were really good so I ordered it thinking I could use it in school for a engaging lesson or part of a theme. The pull-in and pull-out tabs were tight and it was difficult to pull them in and out. When my grandchildren came over, I read...

5.0 out of 5 stars Make Room for Big Frog, October 6, 2009
This review is from: Big Frog Can't Fit In: A pop-up book (Board book)
I'm a pretty big fan of Mo Willems and pop-up books, so to have a Mo Willems pop-up book is like a hot fudge sundae with a cherry on top.

Big Frog just doesn't fit in. Maybe shorter legs or a more bendable spine would help her feel more at home with all the other frogs. But Big Frog soon learns that the best of friends don't expect you to fit into their lives--they make room in their lives for you.

One of the best things about this book is that it is written as a pop-up book. They didn't just take a story and make it interactive to interest kids. Instead the plot itself necessitates a pop-up medium. Big Frog might not fit in this book, but every Mo Willems fan needs to make room in their library for this larger-than-life book.

As a note to parents who are reluctant to buy their children pop-up books, the medium has much improved since the days when we were kids. I've had several kids of varying ages (including a three year-old who wouldn't let anyone help her with the pull tabs) look at it, play with it and try to pull it apart. The pages started out a little stiff, but everything now works smoothly and has held up incredibly well. This book is made to last.

They weren't kidding when they said this is a pop out book and not a pop up book. This sucker's big, and when you open the pages different elements spring out in all directions. Very cool.

It's funny and well illustrated and the physical construction of the book seems about as solid as you can reasonably expect. I think my copy is still going to get destroyed at some point (just being realistic) but we should get good value before then.

As the cover notes: Warning, contains one pigeon...

5.0 out of 5 stars There's always room for a frog, October 25, 2009
This review is from: Big Frog Can't Fit In: A pop-up book (Board book)
This is a very clever, interactive pop up or out book (depending on how you look at it! The 16 page book contains pop ups on each page as Big Frog tries to fit in the book. My granddaughters liked the book and found the premise fascinating that a book was written where the main character didn't fit. That said though, the kids are two and four, the pop ups are too fragile to allow them unlimited, unsupervised access to this beautiful book.

Mo Willems flat books are awesome - funny, well illustrated, thoughtful and most of all hilarious tales that make me and my children smile - Mo Willems pop-up books (I am hopeful that there will be more) are genius!

While wandering the aisles and tables of the school book fair, I successfully convinced a number of mothers to purchase BIG FROG for their own children - I am also a nursery school teacher and a few days after I received my copy, I brought it in to pass around - The book was greeted with many ooohs, aahs and giggles

When my grandchildren came over, I read it to them and the tabs began to rip (I was in control of the tabs, not the children). The next morning, the kids looked at the book again and the tabs really ripped and I will not be able to use this in the classroom. So less then 24 hours and only 3 readings of the book, the tabs and slots are ripped! My grandchildren ages are 5,6,7: old enough to take care of books. I would not buy this book again and I do not recommend it for personal use or classroom use. I gave it two stars for a so-so cute idea.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended as a fine beginner's eye-catching book, May 18, 2010
This review is from: Big Frog Can't Fit In: A pop-up book (Board book)
BIG FROG CAN'T FIT IN isn't recommended for lending libraries - it features pop-ups and pull-outs - but is perfect as an interactive study for parents with kids who love pop-ups. Lending to reading aloud together is the fine story of a frog who just doesn't meld with the rest. Highly recommended as a fine beginner's eye-catching book.

This book is one of my son's favorite books - it's a bit difficult to pull the tabs, but is very interactive. Make sure you have someone help your little one read the book.

This book is fun, not a snuggle up and read book, more of an activity. My 6 year old reads it to himself, he loves the HUGE pop-ups. Once I caught him laughing his head off with this book in hand...apparently he had found a hidden Pigeon from Mo Willems other books. A very cute book for ages 2-7.

I adore Mo Willems work. I was excited about this book for my four year old. The illustrations are great and it's a really cute story. Downside, the pulls are really difficult for a child to do, and mine likes to do everything. So for her, it was frustrating.

My son is four and we figure he is old enough to have this type of book. I would recommend when not reading to put this out of reach of small children as they like to play with them and accidently tear. The pull tabs were a little tight but with more use have loosened up.
