This book hooks you at the first chapter and keeps you turning the pages until the end. The heroine is sharp as nails on the outside, but soft as butter on the inside. Her softness does not detract from the strength of character she has to overcome the demons from her past as well as meet the new demons from her future. She meets them head on. Our sexy hero (with the help of some other sexy heroes) learns from her what real strength entails--not just physically but mentally as well. The plot keeps you guessing who the bad guy is until the end and makes you so satisfied to see justice finally win out. I can't wait to read about the other "heroes" in this book--Brady and possibly Clint. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves sexy suspense. There were a few typos in the e-book, but nothing to detract from the story-line.

...and grab it she does with this topic. As she wrote in her Afterword: many abused kids never recover. An excellent kung fu sensei (or karate sensei) can be one of the most influential people in a struggling young person's life ... and even in a struggling adult's life. I know this from being involved with an adult who has blossomed through her experience with karate. I am a fan of Taylor Lee's writings (loved The Grandmaster's Legacy trilogy), and look forward to reading more of her books.

The romance was steamy (as was expected), the villains depraved (also expected), and the really bad guy was just a bit of a surprise (I had a suspicion...more like the tingling on the back of my neck like Jake experienced). The depiction of Yuma, however, felt a bit off. We live five months a year there, and I had a hard time equating what I know of that nice city (99,000 people sans winter visitors) to Lee's depiction of a "dusty little town." However, literary license is par for the course and somewhat essential in writing fiction (to a certain extent).

Read it for the romance; read it for the mystery; read it for a good time on your Kindle. Whatever...just read it!

Really enjoyed this book. This book had everything you could want in a romance: an emotionally damaged yet competent woman, sexy men (yes, plural), and dangerous men in murderous plots. I really grew attached to Lexie right away and was immediately drooling over the gorgeous Colonel Jake Gardner. Worth the time and it was free. Nothing better than that.
