Great introduction to concepts and fun to read,

This review is from: Big Girls Use the Potty! (Board book)
We bought this book for our 2 1/2 year old daughter about 6 months ago and she fell in love with it. It is her first book about using the potty and she really likes it.
The text is in rhyme and it uses photographs of children and a teddy bear on different styles of potties. I like the photo's better than drawings as it makes it more realistic. The girl in the story is teaching her teddy bear how to use the potty and if he can do it so can she. My daughter had this book quickly memorized and 'reads' it to her own stuffed animals. She recognizes that it's ok to have accidents and theres no shame in it. It's a great book to plant the seeds of using the potty. It also comes with reward stickers for when your child uses the potty.

Not very helpful, unless you're potty-training a teddy bear.,

The pictures are photographs, which is what I wanted, but throughout the entire book (other than the cover!) the little girl is putting her teddy bear on the potty. This may cause an issue if the child only wants to put their bear on the toilet instead of themselves. I wanted my daughter to see another toddler using the potty, not a teddy bear. Fisher Price makes a great one with photographs. On the second page the little girls does let her bear practice once, but throughout the rest of the book she is the one using the potty. I'd go for that one, instead.

We happily place this book in our bathroom for our little gal. We like these things about it:
-subject is a real girl, not an abstract cartoon; Our daughter can relate to her and is really outspoken about wanting to be a "big girl" like Molly. -the stickers are really cute & she gets a reward for each time trying to potty & works diligently to get those special teddy bear stickers at the end of each row -the stickers are plentiful (great because her brother peeled a few off & we can replace them w/o consequence) -the overall tone of the book is fun -the length of the book is good: not too long that she gets bored w/ it but not too short that she doesn't have sufficient time to read it and allow "things to happen" ;) There are a few potential problems however, depending on how important you might feel the following aspects: -the potties they show are all kid potties, basically the same style. We're not using a kid potty at all, so I read through those parts kinda quickly because our daughter really likes the idea of a pink potty just her size (but she's not getting one!) -The mommy in the story says, "Underpants are what you need..." and our little gal is quite excited to wear "panties." I just add in the term she knows and smiles abound. -I'm a little nervous about her taking her teddy bear to the real potty and washing his hands like she sees in the book. So far it hasn't been an issue though. Great book! :)

i love it and so does my daughter. the only thing that worried me was that it showed potty options, and my daughter already had a potty that i didn't allow her to choose...so i skip over that part! and we just talk about all the girls on their potties.

I bought this book when my daughter was first interested in the potty (about a month ago - she was 20 months). We have read it quite a few times and she likes seeing the real pictures of the little girl using the potty. She has since started using the potty every night before bed and usually in the morning too. This book is nice because it doesn't have cartoon pictures, it is real life stuff and it is full of fun rhymes. I would recommend this book highly.

This book looked like what we wanted - a photo pictorial about a little girl learning to use the potty. FALSE.
This book is about her stuffed bear learning to use the potty. Which is utterly unhelpful. We already purchased an Elmo potty book that had a similar issue and my kiddo couldn't care less about it. I wish I'd read the reviews on this first before I purchased it... I made the mistake of giving it to my daughter to look at on her own and she tore out the stickers so now we can't return it.

great pictures and rhyming story, dd loves this one more than the others. probably because of the real pictures instead of cartoon drawings.

This book is very cute. The little girl (Molly) teachers her bear how to use the potty. The words are all in rhyme form which my daughter (almost 2) loves.
On the page where they are showing all the different potties they really only show two different potties, none of which look like anything on the market in our area, though. My daughter doesn't seem to ming though. I love that this has real photos in it.

Okay - better for older kids,
This review is from: Big Girls Use the Potty! (Board book)
My daughter loves books with pictures of real kids so I thought this would be perfect! It's not bad - but the book focuses on the little girl teaching her teddy bear to use the potty - which is a little complex for my toddler. Still a cute book, just not what I expected, and not super effective.

Potty training is not about a teddy bear,

This book is not direct enough about a child's body. It's all about underpants and the bear and it's trying to be too cute without enough information. "Once upon a Potty" is a much better book. This one is all about the bear and not about the child herself and what she is experiencing.
