5.0 out of 5 stars Instant hot
I use this beastie all of the time. It works in the cold of the Northeastern winter just as well as the Green Egg does. The cord is SHORT, like all of these electric starter brands seem to be, grumble, but this gets your charcoal going in a hurry. And it fits in the bowl of the Egg perfectly. Just like it is made to.

3.0 out of 5 stars BGE electric starter
Just got my second one last week. The first one only lasted three seasons. Do not recommend storing it in a garage, shed or any other place exposed to cold temperatures. Functions great! Gets lump charcoal going in less than eight minutes. Poor marks on longevity.

The electric charcoal starter for the Big Green Egg works like a charm! So much easier and quicker than using the fire starter cubes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy, but keep an eye on it, September 21, 2011
This review is from: Big Green Egg Electric Starter (Misc.)
Been using the BGE electric starter for about 9 months now, probably 50 or more starts, still works great. The starter says to leave plugged in for 7 minutes, I always use a egg timer at 6 minutes or less, and have not had a problem. If you leave it plugged in too long you will burn it out, and be sure to remove it when you unplug it. I always store it inside the house, as outdoor humidity may shorten it's life. No need for the little starter stix anymore.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could last longer, February 5, 2011
This review is from: Big Green Egg Electric Starter (Misc.)
This starter works great on the Egg, but I'm about to buy my 4th! The BGE main store is right up the street, and they recommend not using it for more that 6 minutes. (the longer it is on, the shorter the life). It takes a fan to start it in that time. BGE sells an intake fan, but I just aim an old hair dryer at the opening. So my low mark is for longevity (hopefully, the fan will make it last longer).
When I'm done, I hang the unit on the side of the bench, hot side up, but out of the way, by the metal rest. Plan ahead where you will let yours cool!

Every husband or wife who cooks on the Big Green Egg should have one of these to start the cooking process. We got this item in a timely manner, and it was in excellent condition. We are just waiting for my husband to use this Christmas surprise.
