Product Description

Grab more ... Worry less ...Finally parents can relax when the kids grab the iPad2.... Safe, secure, and... squishy? Yep. Squishy. As in soft, squishy, easy to grab foam. That means fewer slips, drops, and tumbles and plenty of cushion just in case. It's amazing how much relief Big Grips Frame brings to the table, especially when the iPad2 is falling from the table! No need to worry about the iPad2 slipping out of Big Grips Frame either. Big Grips Frame snugly hugs and cradles your iPad2 and won't let go until you say so.

I have dropped it (no damage to iPad).

The "Big Grips Frame" makes dropping the iPad much less likely, since it provides a better grip.

After reading a lot of other reviews, and I do mean a LOT, I settled on getting this frame for my son, who is on the spectrum. We got the ipad 2 because we expect it would be an integral tool for him to use. I wanted to make sure that it would put up with the rough and tough of a boy.
As others have noted, plugging the ipad in to charge with the frame on can be a downright feat of the nimble-fingered.
It's not impossible, just tricky.

The frame has a little squish to it, not as much as a stress ball would. It will take an impact just fine (yep, I dropped it to check!)
The way the frame is designed, the corners or one of edges would hit before the ipad likely would hit anything. If you were to place the frame on a surface with the face of the ipad down, it wouldn't be touching anything, there would be a gap between the surface and the ipad.

Hopefully this helps others looking for frames/cases.

Recently, my son, who has autism, was having a bad day. He had his ipad with him in the car watching a movie. As we were driving, he rolled down the window and threw out his iPad! When we got to the iPad it was not damaged and still playing the movie. Thank goodness I had purchased the Big Grip just days before. I'm sure I would be out an iPad had I bought another case.

I teach special education at the middle school level to on average 8-10 students with moderate and severe disabilities. When my district provided our classroom with an iPad I was excited but also apprehensive about how much I could let my students use it unsupervised, as my students can be quite rough with the toys and games in our classroom. I searched around and got the Big Grips in blue. I could not have been more happy with this product! The iPad gets used non-stop all day long and my students have dropped it, thrown it, pushed it off desks, and attempted to yank it out of each other's hands. The Big Grips Frame has protected it without fail. It has never stretched, gotten loose, or even started to come off. Reaching the on/off button and volume control is not a problem at all. Despite lots of dirty fingers the frame will clean off easily. It is stain resistant, so much so that when I tried to label the on/off button location with a permanent marker (to help a student locate the switch), my label quickly faded and has to be periodically reapplied. The best aspect of this product is that it allows my students to independently use some wonderful apps out there without needing a teacher always hovering near them.

I liked the product so much that when my district got our class two more iPads this year I immediately purchased two more Big Grips, this time in green and grey!

My original cover in blue did tend to get in the way of the camera a little (I would have to bend the frame slightly to remove the blue frame from the shot). I noticed in the two new frames I just purchased that they addressed this issue and the hole for the camera is larger and no longer blocks the view.

Note that the frame is very thick; approximately 1 inch.

I love that all the buttons are still accessible to adults but not quite as easy to get to for toddlers. The only thing is the main button is not covered in anyway so my son keeps pressing that and going back to the main screen from where he was and gets frustrated when he doesn't know how to go back to whatever he was watching. However I am still glad I bought this as he is very into throwing things around the home and I know this will at least shield the iPad from a lot of the falls it would take when he uses it. One thing I do have to mention, be prepared to let it "off gas" a bit when you initially receive it, it does give off quite a potent plastic-y smell and it took me at least a couple weeks before I could stand using it.

We have two iPads, and I wanted chunky frames on both of them. We already owned an M-Edge SuperShell, but at the time they only made them in lime green, and I wanted a different color for the 2nd iPad, so I got the Big Grips instead. While this item will do what it you expect, namely protect the iPad from little ones bumps, make it easier to grip, etc., the SuperShell does it better.

1) The SuperShell has a back, not just a frame, so it protects more of the iPad.
2) It's edges are ridged so they are easier to grip.
3) It just looks better on the iPad, and looks better finished (not so much rough cut foam around the opening, not quite as chunky).
4) It isn't as thick around the charger port, so you can much more easily plug it in to charge.
5) Buttons are easier to push, especially for my kids.

Now that M-Edge is starting to make more colors, I just ordered a new SuperShell and will be giving the Big Grips away.

I purchased the Big Grips a couple months ago for my Autistic Daughter and we love it. Yesterday my daughter took it out side and left her iPad in the driveway while she played. Unknowingly I came home and pulled in the driveway and ran over it with the back wheel of my van. There were black tire marks all over it. LOW and BEHOLD the iPad was fine. Not a mark on it. I washed off the Big Grip cover and it is as good as new. The Big Grips can stand up to not only being dropped but also to being run over. If you have kids with iPads you need Big Grip covers for them. WE LOVE IT
