5.0 out of 5 stars One CD...and I still keep checking for more., December 8, 2006
This review is from: Big Harvest (Audio CD)
I agree with what has been said already. One day home on the way home from work I heard one of the songs, Hard Sun, on the radio. Fortnately for me, I went out and got this CD back then.

Every song on this CD is a gift. So tasteful and unique. Gordon Peterson really had something...and then he and this wonderful band was like abducted by aliens. Its been years and I still check to see if anything has popped back up again. Like I was here today at Amazon today. Really this is an amazing CD. If you ever see it...GRAB IT.

BTW...Joni Mitchell and her bass playing husband to be, are on this CD. I love Joni Mitchell. When I heard her singing back up, it was nice to know she was backing his band up in her own way too...

I will always wonder why the really good bands, the ones that can make a CD like this, get pushed out, and the bland and un-inspired get shoved in your faces everywhere.

I will keep checking though...some day..some day...Indio will return.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Sun, thanks to Vedder for the remake, February 16, 2008
This review is from: Big Harvest (Audio CD)
Although I appreciate Eddie Vedder resurrecting Hard Sun, I prefer the original version. Hopefully the popularity of this song will get this album re-released. A resell for $89 is ridiculous. Makes me think file sharing isn't such a bad thing.

Gordon Peterson, where are you? Why only one album? And why is this one out of print? This is one of the greatest albums ever recorded!

5.0 out of 5 stars Long Gone, Not Forgotten., July 22, 2010
This review is from: Big Harvest (Audio CD)
I bought this album when it came out in 1989, and for the past 20 years, I've played it regularly.
And every time I listen to it, it brings tears to my eyes.
It is a classic, emotional, artistically crafted, stunningly recorded (it stills sounds better than most recordings today).
The elegant mix of violin, guitars, keys and achingly sad vocals reaches a level of beauty that I find perhaps once a decade.
It is truly a horrible thing that such a Masterpiece of Musical Genius was a commercial flop, leading to the disappearance of the artist into obscurity...
I raise my glass to Gordon Peterson, wherever you are! Cheers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Put this into the CD player and just chill, April 12, 2011
This review is from: Big Harvest (Audio CD)
I'm listening to this CD that I paid a premium for because it's rare, but it was so worth the price! Eddie Vedder's remake of Hard Sun made me want to look up the original artist and I bought it based on the strength of that song alone. I suppose you could call it a blend of "old" U2/Sting/Midnight Oil. It's great to just listen to the whole thing from start to finish.

Yeah, this is not really a review of the CD, but it is really good to listen to this. The recording audio quality is very good, too.

I owned this on cassette about 20 years ago. I was heartbroken when someone stole it. I can't believe how happy I am to have discovered this. Beautiful voice and great melodies.

Gordon Peterson released one album back in 1989. When I heard it way back then I thought that he was destined for greatness. It was a wonderful album, with the incredible "Hard Sun." But Peterson gave up on recording and performing for some unknown reason and this was his only album. A few years ago Hard Sun was featured in the movie Into the Wild, but recorded by Eddie Vedder. (Both versions are great.) There are a lot of good songs on this album and it's a shame that we haven't heard more from this talented songwriter.

5.0 out of 5 stars A rare gift, March 14, 2010

I appreciate this album most for its rarity. It's incredible that such a well done album would not be well remembered. It's even stranger that such an artistic accomplishment would be out of print. Perhaps all great works are doomed to eventual obscurity. I am glad I have had the privilege of owning this album, despite its scarcity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whoever you are, this is the album you've been looking for., October 6, 2008
This review is from: Big Harvest (Audio CD)
There are almost no words to describe how wonderfully this album has been written and recorded. Five stars certainly doesn't do it justice. Nor would ten.

Amongst a multitude of incredible session players (including a young Joni Mitchell and her future husband) Gordon Peterson proclaims his lyrics like a troubadour not matched before or since.

There is no hyperbole good enough for this rhythmically clever, crisp collection of tracks. At once mournful and celebratory of life, especially life in rural settings (consider the grinding wheel, the reference to harvests, and natural beauty), it's an album all should have, no matter what your musical preference. I listen to metal, rap and Indie, and this album is the best in my collection, and fits in none of these genres.

Sadly out of print, and therefore insanely overpriced by the Amazon marketplace hounds out to make a quick buck, it is nevertheless literally worth every penny.

Gordon, return to us and make another album. Even if you do not, your legacy far outweighs most artists, no matter how big their back-catalogues.

Thank you.
