Todd Park Mohr - SUperstar, September 7, 2004
This review is from: Big Head Todd & the Monsters - Live at the Fillmore (DVD)
I just purchased this DVD yesterday, and after three viewings I am convinced that this is by far my favorite concert DVD of 2004. BHTM are an incredibly tight band, but it is the brilliant performance of Todd Park Mohr that truly shines. Outstanding vocals, sizzling guitar, this DVD documents Todd's maturity and emergence as a true superstar.
The set list is outstanding and showcases a nice mix of BHTM's new material from "Crimes of Passion" and other older albums. Included are stunning performances of Imaginary Ships, Conquistador, Broken Hearted Savior, Crazy Mary and Resignation Superman (plus several others). They finish off the set with a song previously recorded by Eric Clapton, "Forever Man" which is outstanding.
The quality of the DVD video is excellent, very clear and presented in a 16:9 aspect ratio. The video editing is overall very good and maintains the focus appropriately on Todd Park Mohr. The Dolby 5.1 soundtrack is excellent and mixed very well.
The bottom line is that this is a fantastic DVD.

Surprisingly great concert DVD, February 4, 2011
This review is from: Big Head Todd & the Monsters - Live at the Fillmore (DVD)
BHTM are a band I liked in the early 90's and a band that I lost track of shortly thereafter. I remembered the songs "Bittersweet" and "Brokenhearted Saviour" on various TV shows. Todd Park Mohr always impressed me as a no-nonsense, straightforward artist, as did his fellow bandmates. Well, I bought this DVD just on a whim to see what they had done since I last followed them. I was very surprised at just how great BHTM are as a live band. I was familiar with maybe five or six of the songs on this set and the rest I was unfamiliar with. I have to say that every song on this DVD was played masterfully and upon several viewings these views have been reinforced. The greatest highlight of each song is of course Todd's lead guitar solos...every song has one and they are performed with virtuosity. These are talented musicians who deserve far more attention than they receive. I have yet to recommend this DVD to others, but when I do I believe it will win the favor of whomever I recommend it to. I feel like BHTM are a secret just waiting to be discovered (Still!!). I'm amazed that they aren't more well-known...but I think I know why: they don't have a commercial image and they don't try to win listeners by making radio-friendly music. Somehow, though, that doesn't really matter. I would like them just the same even if they were wildly popular. It's no wonder that they've been able to stay the same band after so many years. BHTM: kudos and keep up the great work!

One incredible show to watch/listen to, February 10, 2011

Whether your a fan or not, you will enjoy this mix of Rhythm and Blues that is BHTATM!!! The sound is awesome and the video is pretty good. Sure, concerts being filmed today are much nicer but your watching this for the sound, not the picture!!
