This tools gets more then 5 stars from me. I am a professional finish carpenter, and I have all the proper power tools for sanding, but sometimes you need a soft touch. Or sometimes you just have a little sanding to do. This sander uses the same size belt as most common electric sanders, so you don't need any special paper. The rounded corner of the sand devil is the perfect size for sanding things to fit around bull nose corner bead. It has a good grip, and you can change paper in a flash.
I recommend this for everyone.

This is a wonderful addition to anyone's tool collection. One excellent use for this tool is to knock a slight bevel on door edges after planing them down. Helps put a perfect crispy edge on just about anything. I love how you can release the lock to rotate the belt to get fresh paper. Cant do that easily on a home built sanding block. There's no pinching the sandpaper needed to hold the sandpaper on the block while you're working. Anywhere my belt sander goes, the Sand-Devil follows. I gifted a friend (and fellow tool-oholic) with one after he ogled it.

Why don't they sell these in any stores in the LA area? Not even Rockler or Woodcraft or any specialty tool stores that I go to? I am a union finish carpenter and other carpenters on the job are always asking me where to get these. They are bitchen! There is nothing else like them.

I've been using sanding blocks all my life. I made my own and used the purchased ones. I tried them all and the sandpaper was never truly taut and flat. This is the first sanding block I enjoy using. I bought some 3M purple regalite and the this combo rocks. No longer will i have to pinch the sandpaper with my fingers to try and keep it flat. I just focus on sanding the surface now. I use a sanding belt eraser when it becomes dirty and it is as good as new. I highly recommend the purple regalite as well. I have a 80 grit belt on my Rigid oscillating belt sander for over 6 months now and it does not need to be changed yet. Imagine how long it will last in this sanding block. The Sand devil gets two thumbs up from this woodworker. Here is a link to the purple sandpaper. http://www.amazon.com/3M-81403-21-Inch-Regalite-Sanding/dp/B0000223RU/ref=pd_cp_hi_1

I bought this sanding block to make it easier to sand a couple of decks on my summer cabin.
With all the nail and screw heads at the surface, I didn't want to use a belt sander and figured the Sand Devil would be the perfect tool. It performed fairly well on the first day, then on the second day the tightening bar broke. It is made of cheap brittle plastic and snapped in two places during a sandpaper change. Had it been made of metal, I suspect the sanding block would last a lifetime. In any case, once it broke, there was no tension on the sandpaper and the block was useless. This left me in the middle of a job, nowhere near town, with a busted piece of junk. Luckily I had my 25 year old sanding block, which after cutting the belt sander paper to the appropriate size, did just fine. My advice is, don't waste your money on this thing. Just get an old-school sanding block. |
