This review is from: The Big Hurt: Songs to Cry By (Audio CD)
28 year old Miss Toni Fisher recorded "The Big Hurt" for the tiny Signet label. Jimi Hendrix was only 15 years old and just beginning to play electric guitar when he heard "The Big Hurt" on the radio in Seattle in 1959. He was fascinated by the record's innovative use of "phlange phasing."

He had this to say about it to the Cleveland Plain Dealer in March 1968:

"Say, have you heard of a record called 'The Big Hurt?' It's old. By Toni Fisher I
think but I don't know the label. All of the new techniques were used on that record
without anyone knowing about it. I'd sure like to get that one."
