1.0 out of 5 stars Not Kundalini, September 30, 2002
This review is from: Big K: The Kundalini Story (Paperback)
I would have give this book less than 1 star, if that were possible. The majority of the book is nothing more than boorish discussion of how Elaine and Bob met, with more inane "new age" fluff sprinkled throughout. Often more space is devoted describing how "randy" Bob was and how Elaine was born with a "fully developed sex chakra," etc. ad nauseum. I did not buy this book to read about "the bulge in Bob's trousers.." In addition, the description of the son, who is supposedly a sociopath does not fit with the behavior described within the book. A true sociopath has no conscience. If this story is true at all (and I have my doubts) the child was misdiagnosed (an all-too-common occurrence), but he does not sound like a sociopath, and a true sociopath will not be cured by the silly meditation spoken of within this book. I agree with the previous reviewer, in that this does not sound at all like Kundalini. In my work, I often encounter people with over-active imagination and, for what little it may be worth, that is what this entire account sounds like to me. The entire experience begins one day when, suddenly, Elaine announces that she is experiencing Kundalini rising. Just like that! Unlikely given the circumstances listed within the book. Furthermore, the things she describes simply do not add up. The author may have read a bit about Kundalini, and _may_ have experienced some "Chakra activity," but a full-blown Kundalini experience this is not. There are MUCH better books available on the subject--such as, _Energies of Transformation: A Guide to the Kundalini Process_, by Bonnie L. Greenwell, _Kundalini, Evolution, and Enlightenment (Omega Book (New York, N.Y.).)_, by John Warren White, and Gopi Krishna's books. This one is mostly filler, in very large type, with much wasted space. It is almost as if they were trying to spread things out enough to fill up the book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Questioning...., March 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Big K: The Kundalini Story (Paperback)
This book is very different from all of the accounts of Kundalini which I have found, with a down home flavor to the whole mysterious thing. An odd parallel story is the Lehman's account of their son, whom they constantly describe as a sociopath and criminal. (This continues in the book reviews following, which each of them contribute to.) This does not comport with my understanding of enlightenment and compassion. Caveat Emptor.

This review is from: Big K: The Kundalini Story (Paperback)
I was one of the pioneers of the space program at Cape Canaveral. I was lead engineer for the Thor/Delta program for 21 years, starting in 1957. Before working at the Cape, I was in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. In 1975, my first wife and I divorced, and I joined Parents Without Partners in Titusville, Florida. I met Elaine in PWP that August, and married her a year later in August, 1976.

None of that prepared me for Elaine's roller coaster Kundalini experiences. None of it prepared me for having a son who was diagnosed at 17 as an incurable sociopath.

And yet, maybe all of it did. I grew up poor on a small farm in Geneva, Ohio, and developed strong common sense and good values as a result. I know now that I came back this time around, to marry Elaine, my soulmate. We believe we can do anything when we put our heads together. She and I helped Mike straighten out, and I helped Elaine through her unusual Kundalini experiences. I leaned on my strong common sense and good values through all of it.

I am very grateful that our daughter and co-author, Susan, came back when we did. She was able to help Elaine from a young woman's point of view in ways that I could not. Susan's contributions to "BIG K, The Kundalini Story," are very valuable.

My son, Mike, has been straightened out ever since 1978, when he got out of prison and came to live with us. Elaine and I managed to help him decide to straighten out during his incarceration and afterwards, in spite of the dire prognosis that he was "incurable," given us by two different psychiatrists.

In March, 1999, Elaine became ONE with her Higher Self as a result of the Kundalini surging in her since our honeymoon in August of 1976. Our life together is a little bit of heaven, now!

Now that Elaine is safely ONE, Susan and I are having more and more Kundalini experiences, some spiritual, some difficult. Today, I turn inwards to my own Indwelling God for all of my direction. I can honestly say it's all been well worth it.

We had to write "BIG K, The Kundalini Story," because many of you are also experiencing the powerful Kundalini energy, and you may not know what's happening to you. Every person who is into metaphysics is on a need-to-know basis about Kundalini. Every yoga student needs to understand that yoga leads to having more Kundalini rise from the very beginning classes. "Kundalini Yoga," is the most advanced level of yoga. (After that, you go beyond yoga, where Elaine is, even though she never studied yoga.)

We also had to write "BIG K" because far too many children and teens are getting out of control, and we have some answers for that. Our answers work, too! So read "BIG K, The Kundalini Story," and contact us with questions or your own stories. Elaine and I will be happy to respond. Our email address is: BIGK@televar.com.

This review is from: Big K: The Kundalini Story (Paperback)
This text had a number of highly valuable points for me. It was written from a very personal point of view outlining many of the metaphysical aspects of the Kundalini experience as well as the possible negative side effects. I have already recommended this book to spiritual friends and will do so in the future - especially those undergoing spiritual metamorphosis which they do not understand.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating, engrossing story with broad appeal., July 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Big K: The Kundalini Story (Paperback)
Imagine your body being completely taken over by an unknown energy that brought on emotional, physical and spiritual changes that were beyond your control. Elaine Lehman has lived through just such an experience and she shares her unusual journey in the engrossing new book, "BIG K, The Kundalini Story." Kundalini is a particularly powerful energy that causes the evolution of the human consciousness. Little is known about it, especially in the western world. Elaine had no idea what was happening to her the day she suddenly felt an energy rise within her body that brought her immediate joy and bliss. It was Kundalini energy, and since it rose in her twenty-plus years ago, Elaine has endured a spectrum of extreme sensations, ranging from euphoric highs to debilitating physical ailments to spiritual enlightenment. Big K actually tells two stories. The first is about the Kundalini and its effects on Elaine and her family. She does an excellent job of making the Kundalini very real and understandable to the everyday reader. The other story concerns Elaine's stepson, a teenager who was continually in trouble with drugs and the law, and how his family helped him overcome his problems. The two stories complement each other as they contrast the challenges of the spiritual and physical worlds. Co-authoring the book with Elaine are her husband and daughter, Bob and Susan Lehman. Their voices are essential to the story, giving it balance and credibility by offering the observer's point of view. The Kundalini brought new dimensions and difficulties to their lives as well, changing their perception of the spiritual world forever. BIG K will fascinate anyone who has an interest in metaphysics, but its appeal is much broader than that. It's a fascinating story about ordinary people who experience an extraordinary event, something that might happen to any of us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elaine's Kundalini experiences/Bob's antisocial son, Mike., September 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Big K: The Kundalini Story (Paperback)
Bob and I were on our honeymoon in August, 1976, when I first felt the powerful Kundalini evolutionary energy rising within me. Until this year, 1999, I was on a roller coaster of spiritual highs and physical health lows as a result of my continuing, on-going Kundalini experiences.

I don't believe I could have lived through the 23 years since our honeymoon, without the loving support of my husband, Bob, and daughter, Susan. Both of them played an integral role in my on-going, Kundalini experience. (Now, they are having their own!) Their contributions to BIG K add a necessary dimension that I, alone, could not provide.

As I look back over the 23 years that have gone by since that first, fateful surge of Kundalini, I gnow (gut level know) that it has all been well worth it. Yes, I suffered horribly, but even in the midst of the shaking, the loss of balance, and the physical illnesses that often had no diagnosable pathology, my spiritual growth was phenomenally rapid. I always knew I was having a most unusual spiritual awakening, and that the Kundalini was literally re-building me on all levels.

BIG K is also about my criminal stepson, who played a big role in our lives. Bob's son was diagnosed as an incurable sociopath at age 17, a few months after Bob and I met at a Parents Without Partners meeting in Titusville, Florida. At 18, Mike went to prison, but during those years, Bob and I managed to help Mike straighten out, using every spiritual insight we were given. (According to psychologists and psychiatrists, you're not supposed to be able to DO that!)

Adrenaline is the body's natural "antidote" to Kundalini. Antisocial people are addicted to their own adrenaline, and crave excitement. (See books by Dr. Stanton E. Samenow, the nation's leading criminologist.) Therefore, antisocial people have an internal balance of too much adrenaline and not enough Kundalini.

So, if you have an antisocial (criminal or future criminal) child, and you want to help him straighten out, you must provide him with a quiet, routine life, and teach him/her to meditate and/or pray. Remove all of the too-exciting media and books from his life and substitute quiet, loving, and true books like our children's book, "PETEY THE PEACOCK BREAKS A LEG." This will cause your child's Kundalini to rise, which will help him evolve past his antisocial thinking patterns and his addictive need for external excitement. AND, here's the rest of the story: Bob and I live in Bellingham, Washington, USA, and in March of 1999, I finally became fully aware that I am now ONE with my Indwelling God, my Higher Self, my Godhead. The joy and serenity that comes with this Oneness cannot be described. You have to experience it to know what I mean. This is what the entire Kundalini process is all about. This is why we are ultimately here, to find Heaven in the midst of Hell, and for that, you need more Kundalini flowing! (Another book will follow.)

"BIG K, the Kundalini Story," is a complete departure from the usual type of book about Kundalini. It is western and modern, full of conversation and short paragraphs. It is on all levels, comes from all of the chakras, and we are told it is fast-paced and fascinating. Read it, and change your life and the lives of the people you love.

Email me after you have read BIG K, and tell me about your Kundalini experiences OR YOUR PROBLEMS WITH YOUR ANTISOCIAL CHILD! "BIG K, The Kundalini Story," is about both, and I can help you.

"A fascinating read, and well written. I know a lot about the subject, since I've been through it myself...and still am. "BIG K, The Kundalini Story," is great for beginners and metaphysical people who don't know much about the subject. It is blessedly free ot strange words and devotions to unknown deities. It ought to be required eading for psychiatrists and psychologists." Haakon Rian Ueland, Skjetten, Norway
