Seminal Dean Ing, July 24, 2000
Let's face it, Dean Ing has invented a whole gendre unto himself. I call it "tech fiction". Very few other authors have the scientific grasp on their subjects that Ing does. I've been reading him since his Bela T-9000 days in Omni magizine, and he just keeps getting better and better.
Big Lifters is not only an incredibly good read (Certainly my most favorite Dean Ing book), it's an *important* read too.
He has some really important things to say about the politics of big-rigs, and the problems they present to society.
The big sign hanging in the main characters house that says "When you share the path with an elephant and EITHER of you stumble... YOU lose!" is so telling.
Ing's vision of the solutions and their effect on the various cabals and cartels make it one of those books that I keep several copies of, and loan out to friends and family.
An extremely entertaining, and very important work. Classic Ing.

Trains to Space? YUP!, April 28, 2010
Five years ago, I searched for and found a Hard Bound edition of "the Big Lifters". I was tired of waring out paperbacks.
If the "high-speed rail" concept is on Your radar, READ IT!
If you like his concept, you'll find ways to tell NASA and Republicans.
It is a FUN read, and re-read [for any Techno-file]!
