A Perfect Album/Recording Title for This Kingsmen Classic,
By Soberus (South, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Big & Live [Audio Cd] (Audio CD)
"Big & Live!" The Title fits this recording perfectly. The BIG sound that none other than the Kingsmen can produce and LIVE as you can feel the spirit moving when listening to this CD.When Homeland reproduced this recording on CD from Canaan Records, I could get not get my copy fast enough. It brought back those memories of listening to Big Jim Hamill, Ray Dean Reese and Johnny Parrock. What an Album it was Originally and What a CD is still is. 5 Stars to the Kingsmen on Big & Live!!!

Being a gospel music collector, it has been a dream of mine to have some of these classic recordings available on CD. This is a definite classic. This has the classic energy of the Kingsmen. You can't listen to Ready To Leave sitting down. It's the same way with all the songs. Go get this one!!

The Absolute Best Live Album ever done by the Kingsmen !,

This was originally released in 1979 when the Kingsmen were at the top of their game as the "Ton of Fun". Highlighted was one of the best Male Tenor's ever to sing Southern Gospel, John Parrick (his son now sings tenor for Gold City). Of course there will never be anyone quite like the lead singer, "Big Jim" Hamill, and he drives the Kingsmen through the music with such energy and heart you'll find yourself wishing you were there at the concert. Turn up the volume as loud as it will go and you're halfway there. This is one for the ages and is a MUST HAVE for any Southern Gospel fan!

This is the Live album that set the standard for Live albums for many years. Jim Hamill is at his finest as they introduce Glory Road to a national audience. My favorite recording of all time. From the opening introduction to "I'd Rather Be an Old Time Christian" this album is jam packed with Southern Gospel Classics.

Kingsmen Big and Live,

One of my favorite albums from the Kingsmen. I got the original years ago. I am looking for a cd of this album. If you haven't heard it you need to. It will bless your soul. Real heart felt music, spontaneous. You will be moved by the music and even today the Lord will use it to minister to others who listen.

First Kingsmen live album,
By A Customer
This review is from: Big & Live [Audio Cd] (Audio CD)
The correct original release date was in 1973, the year the Kingsmen recorded it. The line up was: Johnny Parrack-tenor, Big Jim Hamill-lead, Eldridge Fox-baritone, and Ray Dean Reese-bass. The Kingsmen just tore apart the concert stage, and it was recorded on audio on their first Canaan record label release. It set the stage for future Kingsmen live albums, and changed forever how southern gospel live albums would be done in style. When I think about any southern gospel live album, this one stand far out in my mind as one of the all-time best. The Kingsmen went on to record many live albums, but this one is a keeper! Get it, or you just missed out on a goodie!

This CD is a great reflection on a singular event that propelled this outstanding Southern Gospel Quartet to prominence. I highly recommend this recording to any Quartet lover, and certainly to every Kingsmen fan. The only thing that would make this CD better would be to have back liner notes from the original album included in the jewel case.
