Biography

It has been eight years since Steve Tibbetts gave us the fiery electric guitar album A Man About A Horse. Now he returns with a different kind of recording: an album of, primarily, acoustic sounds. The making of Natural Causes took place in a period when Tibbetts was reconsidering some fundamental aspects of his art and craft - in parallel with daily studies of Bach, Bartók, and music theory.… Read more in Amazon's Steve Tibbetts Store

5.0 out of 5 stars A Subtle Roar!, October 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Big Map Idea (Audio CD)
Big Map Idea finds Steve Tibbetts in more subdued musical terrain. This is a mature album filled with hauntingly, atmospheric, slow hypnotic dreamy depth and texture. Fans of his more frenzied electric ventures might be disappointed. This is a contemplative acoustic tour that grows on the listener over time. Tibbetts is the master of "pictures made of sound" This is quintessential spiritual travel music!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Subtle Roar!, November 2, 1998
By A Customer

Steve Tibbetts music can alter consciousness. He is a master of mood. Great stuff to listen to when traveling!! "Big Map Idea" is a quiet reflective album like his previous "Northern Song", but with more instruments and texture. an emotional, spiritual album, just as powerful as doing a zen seshinn. An audio analouge of the liquid bliss of Nirvana. Buy this album, you'll end up telling everyone about Steve Tibbetts!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the two best guitar players, November 30, 2009
This review is from: Big Map Idea (Audio CD)
This one's for acoustic type folk music fans. Nature music for sure. Starts off with Black Mountain Side which is a... LED ZEPPLIN song, but it's totally cool. John Fahey fans might go for this. I own several of his recordings and this one has grown on me and stands alone. Light synths and subdued just right percussion. Perfect for drives in the country.

I'm a huge fan of Steve who is always fearless. He's the king of high energy electric Jazz fusion world music without the cliché factor. In fact there are never clichés in his music. He's not afraid of alienating his audience by trying out new ideas which you have to admire. Never panders, always exploring and growing.

All the pro guitar players know who he is and admire him, but not much of the public. If he got the kind of feedback he deserves he'd have hundreds of reviews. It will grow on you if you give it time. Strong 5 stars.
