4.0 out of 5 stars We love Big Momma 2 January 28, 2006
Despite what the critcs say. The is a great film and flat-out. The story out with Malcolm investigating who kill his mentor. So he becomes Big Mama once again to follow up on a lead. By posing as a nanny. Give the movie a chance and judge for yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars July 23, 2006
By Patrick
Format:DVD
This movie is funny as heck. It's just a silly comedy. If you take it for what it's worth, you'll have a good time. If you're a stiffy, you wont enjoy it and, most likely, people don't enjoy being around you anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars Made Me Laugh July 25, 2006
Format:DVD
Which says a lot. Not too many comedies do. But Martin Lawrence surprised me here and there. I actually ended up enjoying this movie, despite the fact that I'm not a big fan of Lawrence at all.

The real star of the show, in my opinion, are the kids. Especially young 3-year-old Andrew (played by twins Preston and Trevor Shores). It's sad when the 3-year-old is the best actor. He stole the show for me.

Reality is completely out the window on this one so don't expect anything that requires an IQ over 60. Just go with the flow, there is worst out there and this movie doesn't try to pass itself off as being a smart movie.

So, rent this and enjoy it. I enjoyed it more than I thougth I would.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's wrong with the other reviewers? June 29, 2006
Format:DVD
Yes it's silly with lots of primary process humor...but it's so funny I laughed out loud through most of the movie. Lighten up folks! If you're looking for deep thoughts, you don't go to see Martin Lawrence. Good clean fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars oh Lord this was funny! July 12, 2007
Format:DVD
i watched this last night at a friend's house. i never watched the first one, but watching this is making me get the 1st and 2nd. my pal and i couldn't stop laughing. it was funny! but i did find nia long's acting boring, untalented, and uninspiring; i don't think she's a good comedic actress or knows how to be funny. she doesn't have comedic timing. she probably goes better in dramatic movies. yes, this is not trying to win an oscar, yes, the actors acting are weak and unbelievable (are they supposed to be strong?), and the story line is weak ( for some strange reason i felt like i was watching scary movie; a movie that's parodying something funny), but the jokes are funny, and i honestly think if it wasn't for Martin Lawrence's portrayal of Big Momma this would have been a dud. i gave it 5 stars b/c it mad me laugh out loud so much that it substituted for the movies weak acting and story. the bottom line is i enjoyed it and it was highly entertaining. even the way martin speaks when he's big momma is funny!

4.0 out of 5 stars Solved all of the problems with the first film August 26, 2006
Format:DVD
Perhaps not surprisingly if you're familiar with many of my reviews, I'm going to have to go against the grain here. I think Big Momma's House 2 is a much better film than the first one. There were a number of problems--most related to trying to pull the material in too many directions at once, both in terms of genre and style--that made Big Momma's House uneven and not able to reach its potential. (See my review of that film for more information.) New director John Whitesell and returning writers Don Rhymer and Darryl Quarles have solved or surmounted all of those problems and produced a relatively unique gem in Big Momma's House 2.

The comedy is still frequently of the absurdist variety here, but it's toned down just enough, and the rest of the main characters were made just quirky enough, that the blend is exquisite. Additionally, the problems with Malcolm Turner (Martin Lawrence) playing Big Momma to people who know Big Momma intimately have been eliminated.

Next, unlike the first film, Rhymer and Quarles didn't add crime elements as an underdeveloped afterthought here. Instead, a crime story remains the focus throughout the film. The crime story is well written and contains just enough character development to give it effective dramatic weight and drive. The Big Momma scenes function instead as a necessary satellite around the more serious story, and the film becomes more like the classic Pink Panther films, where we have an interesting crime story being investigated by a buffoonish law enforcement agent. Rhymer and Quarles are even able to work in something of a rom-com subplot (involving an errant assumption about a lover) in a similar naturally flowing way, but they keep it appropriately on the back burner.
