Jermaine Dupri is at it again, Say my name!,
By J. Highsmith (Mitchellville, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Big Momma's House: Music From The Motion Picture (2000 Film) (Audio CD)
Anyone that has listened to any projects that Jermaine Dupri has produced or executive produced knows what to expect. He has also produced a lot of songs and done a lot of remixes for famous artists. Kris Kross, Da Brat, Xscape, Jagged Edge, His own CD, "Life in 1472", etc. The "Big Momma's House" soundtrack is Jermaine's latest project. As usual, Jermaine does not disappoint. To start off the CD, you get the slammin' "That's What I'm Looking For" (Remix) w/Da-Brat, Jermaine Dupri and Missy Elliott. The original version is tight, but Missy and JD elevate the remix to another level, although Jermaine uses the same beat. While this is a tight song, the two gems of this soundtrack are "What I'm Gon' To Do To You" w/Kandi from Xscape and "Treated Like Her" w/Latocha Scott and Chante Moore. Kandi takes what her and Shek'spere have been doing for other artists like TLC, Mya, Joe and Destiny's Child, into her own accord with her song. If this is what a Kandi CD is going to sound like then I'll get it on the first day. "Treated Like Her" is also a gem. LaTocha Scott picks up from where she left off on "The Best Man" sountrack, (Liar, Liar) with the song "Treated Like Her". Other highlights on the soundtrack include, Jagged Edge and Blaque's "You Can Always Go" and Jermaine Dupri, Nas, and Monica with an original and a remix version of "I Got To Have It". This soundtrack is a must buy for any Jermaine Dupri fan.

Big Momma is in the house!,

Normally soundtracks usually are bland and poorly arranged, but this one may not have been the best but is still a hit mixed with plenty of uptempos with a few ballads thrown in. Some songs (Jessica-GET UP, Kurupt-RADIO) could have been better off not making the cut, but every album must have it's flaws. Some of the more better tracks are as followed:Da Brat-Blazin' hot remix with JD and Missy! JD worked his producing magic and created a much needed remix of this already hit song. Kandi (What I'm Gon' Do To You)-Great debut song! Definitely one of those 'women impowering' tracks she is so well-known for doing, very upbeat and original. Lil Bow Wow (Bounce With Me)-This track REALLY shows off this youngster's mic skills and shows his great potential in the rap game, the title says it all. Marc Nelson (Love's Not Love)-One of the only two ballads on the album and possibly the best (although LaTocha Scott and Chante' Moore's TREATED LIKE HER is very soulful as well). Marc's vocals and powerful lyrics makes this track worth the slowing down of the album's tempo. Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz (Ooh Big Momma)-This has got to be the crunkest song on the album! Although it doesn't show the best lyricism in the world, it will still be the life of any party or club! Other tracks worth mentioning is the uptempo duet by Jagged Edge & Blaque YOU CAN ALWAYS GO, Da Brat & Vita's BIG MOMMA'S THEME with Destiny's Child performing backgrounds and Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz's second contribution to the album I LIKE DEM. And just to warn you, the album is edited (but not excessively) which is somewhat a good thing, but if you were expecting the explicit version to some of these songs, then you may not be able to find them on here considering there is only one version. The soundtrack is still worth the purchase despite that small little catch.:)

This Sdtk from Big Momma is better than a lot of people might think. You might wonder..why should I buy this cd????? I can think of 7 reasons. Tracks 1,3,4,7,8,11, and 14. The first track, remix to "Thats what i'm looking for" is even better than the original. The beat is the same but the flow is different.missy and Jd take it to the next level. LIL Bow wow is the next best thing to happen for So so def and you see that when u listen to Bounce. Tracks 8 and 11 are the best slow jams on the album and after 2 listens u will see why. Tracks 14 is better than the original. I think they could have left the original as just a single but it dosent hurt. Overall JD did good on this soundtrack and already there are hits coming form it. "Thats what i'm looking for", and "Bounce".

Jermaine Dupri has an reputation everything he touches go platinum and gold want proof just look at the list of hits he written and produced for acts like Da Brat, Jagged Edged, Monica, Kriss Kross , AZ, If that isnt an impressive list what is now with his latest accomplishment.. The soundtrack to Big Momma's House just look on the cd back cover you will see array of artist that he is responsible for their success.. Da Brat is back on deck with the hot remix to the slamming That's What I'm Lookin For with a lil help from JD and Missy Elliott.. Jermaine comes back again with Nas and Monica on the jammin I"ve Got To Have It.. this tune borrows from Peter Gabriel Sledgehammer.. Kandi formerly of Xscape holds her own What I'm Gon Do To You.. Marc Nelson, Da Brat with Destiny's Child, Jagged Edge&Blaque all turn in pretty good efforts.. But there are two acts on this soundtrack that steals the thunder from the artists mentioned.. First one is Lil Bow Bow Featuring Xscape.. with the hot cut Bounce With Me.. this kid has a bright future a head of him he literally steals the veteran acts thunder on this disc.. Next up the unbelievable duet Latocha Scott(Formerly of Xscape) & Chante Moore with the tune Treated Like Her this a great track.. There are a couple of times you might one to hit the fast forward on your CD player a couple of times but for the most part you can put this on and let it play...

The songs that I liked is the first song on the c.d. called Thats what I am looking for. I heard this c.d. for the first time and missy is the bomb. The song Big Momma's Theme is good. I got to give my props to Destiny's Child they can sing. The song from Jessica's Get Up it is in its finest. Thats song that I like. If you want to hear a slow music listen to the song from Chante Moore and Latocha Scott. That song is the bomb. Overall I say the c.d. is the bomb. Jermaine Dupri is at his finest.

Well this has to be one of the top 5 soundtracks of 2000 but with this cd I was expecting more talent. You have your hot singles "Got To Have It", and "Bounce Wit Me", then theres your singles that you say why is this crap on this cd ? Such as I Like Dem, and Radio but the most impressive song on the album would be Latocha Scott and Chante Moore' duet "Treated Like Her" which the two sound great on.Then theres the club banger the expected songs like Kandi's "What I'm Gon Do To You" and Jessica's" Get Up".But all in all Big Momma's House was a well crafted soundtrack it is something to keep in your cd player for awhile to get you jammin.
