Book Description

June 2003
Take four people, put them in a round of golf with a few dollars on the line and you’ve got a typical foursome at any golf course. But if you take four people in dire straits, each one needing thousands of dollars to turn their lives around and that's—The Big Money Match. It’s the story of four skilled and diverse golfers all facing detrimental problems that can only be solved with one thing, cash.

Joi Trottleman, a former collegiate women’s champion from Bethune-Cookman college, shows up for work one day and learns that she’s trapped in a corporate embezzlement scandal. Joi is faced with raising enough money to somehow make the problem disappear.

Jeff King, a former All-American from Grambling State University, has always been the savior for his mischievous little brother. But when the young sibling gets in too deep with the wrong people, Jeff must win enough money to cancel a contract on his little brother’s life.

Kevin Tanner, a Wake Forest University golf alum, has gambled away his family’s money, lost their health insurance and his wife is in desperate need of surgery. A surgery Kevin must now pay for in cash.

Bob Berry, a natural–born golfer, and brilliant yet scrupulous politician, has derived an economic stimulus package that will revive his career and solidify the county’s future. But after some nasty public relation fiascoes, Bob can’t raise enough money for the upcoming primary election.

They all have different backgrounds and very serious problems. But the one thing they have in common, is that each one absolutely, without a doubt, must be the sole winner of The Big Money Match. It’s an emotional roller coaster read of a little golf, a few problems, and lots of pressure.

About the Author

When asked to identify who he is, Brian has been known to bellow out, "I’m John & Delores’ eldest boy."

His jovial and carefree demeanor are but a mere facade for this rising writer.

"I make people smile and feel comfortable because this thing that I do is not about me. Not about the accolades I can collect nor the notoriety I can attain. It's about the transferal of emotion through words."

Often times, if I interact with people, it's a lighthearted or humorous environment. Then, when we're alone, just you and me, represented by my words in a book, I'm trying to touch your life in a matter of moments."

Perhaps it was in his formal education where Brian grasped the easy free-flowing spirit. While attending Tennessee State University, he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Post college, he began work as an engineer for Thomson Consumer Electronics and then for Motorola, Inc.

Writing became a solution to boredom for Brian. During the summer months in Nashville, Brian worked at Kinko’s and during his off days he would come in and use the store’s computers to compose literature . His first creation was an essay entitled, A Black Eye: Views of the Black College Experience which received rave reviews from students on campus. After using his employee discount to mass-produce the essay, he decided to write a short story. The short story became a long story and the long story ultimately transpired into his first novel, Crossing Bridges A Testimony Of Brotherhood

Five years later, Brian left the comforts of his engineering job and gave up $15,000 in Motorola stock to become a full-time writer. To date, he has made regional and national bestselling lists as well as being nominated for several awards.

When asked about his long-term goals as a writer, Brian will tell you, he simply wants to leave a legacy.

"I look forward to being read by your grandchildren and your grandchildren's children."

He and his lovely wife, Latise, reside in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

This is an awesome book. I'm not an avid reader but this book kept me glued from day 1. I play the 2 golf courses mentioned in the book on a regular basis and felt as if I were on the course right in the middle of the big money match. Every chance I had, I would read always anticipating the next high point. This is a must read for all Golfers and anyone caught in the rat race of everyday life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Golf?, January 17, 2004

This review is from: The Big Money Match (Paperback)
Can you imagine a game that involves hitting a little ball into a little hole could be so exciting? Well, Brian Egeston enters with his novel, THE BIG MONEY MATCH. Four major money backers put thousands of dollars on the line with four seasoned golfers and what emerges is the golf game of the year. Each of the golfers is facing disastrous financial situations. Joi Trottleman is involved in a major embezzlement scheme on her job. Jeff King is trying to save his brother's life. Kevin Tanner is broke from a serious gambling problem. Bob Berry is facing political suicide. As these players take to the course, who will walk away with the money and what is the cost to the other three?

Mr. Egeston masterfully weaves a tale about the lives of four people in trouble around a game of golf in this very well written and compelling story. Even a greenhorn such as I could understand and follow the game. His writing style is simply eloquent. The imagery he uses is exceptional. I actually felt like I was on the golf course as the game was in progress. The well-developed characters will evoke a myriad of emotions ranging from love to hate. This is a great book and I highly recommend it.
