5.0 out of 5 stars What is life without Emmet Swimming?, August 21, 1999

A dark and boring existence with nothing but backstreet boys pop and hardcore grunge Marilyn Manson unispired trash. I am so glad that I discovered this band 5 years ago. They are nice and humble guys. Once I saw this girl who saw them after a concert once, and she told them that they sucked. They gave her a box of candy. How many other bands would even listen to someone who didn't like them. I am happy to let you know that she is now one of their biggest fans. They make good music, and this album is no exception.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emmet's best CD with a mature sound, November 26, 2010

A unique, different sound and my favorite Emmet CD (I have all of them). This is a more mature album that their earlier work, which is fantastic in it's own right, but in this album the band's sound is much tighter. Like all of their albums, you can listen to the whole thing. If you are new to Emmet Swimming, I would buy this first and then hit up their earlier stuff. Songs like "Motorway" and "Turnstile" with a perfect mix of story telling lyrics, Todd's deep voice, and strong guitar riffs will immediately convert you into an Emmet Swimming fan. "Guru" and "Fist like a Glove" are strong openers, "Stealing from the Joneses" hits on modern day materialism and "Sunblock" is a great way to end the album, which is clearly meant to be listened to (and should be) from start to finish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable album, December 3, 2002
By
"mamlin" (Austin, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Big Night Without You (Audio CD)
This is an above-average production with enough of a unique sound to rate '4 stars'. The tracks "Turnstile" and "Sunblock" are thoroughly enjoyable and, together, are worth the price of the whole album. "Motorway" is a close-cousin to "Turnstile" without the fulfilling chorus found in the latter. Lead singer Todd Watts' vocal quality gives the band's songs the unique sound that is a pleasant departure from the standard pop fare. Emmet Swimming is one of my more favored groups to draw on when I'm attempting to introduce mainstream pop fans to good-but-lesser-known groups. A recommended buy.
