5.0 out of 5 stars Quite Good July 6, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I have been a fan of Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra for a long time and they never cease to amaze me. This is a spectacular collection of great music from some of the best movies made within the last 5 years. The digital sound effects that are included on this cd are extremely realistic, especially the F-16 flyover. This is one of Erich's masterpieces. I hope he will come out with many more this good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner! October 25, 2000
Format:Audio CD
This collection of movie music ranks right up there with "The Great Fantasy Adventure Album." Having seen all these films (except Gettysburg), and owning tapes of about half of them, I have to commend whoever selected these particular themes for the disk. For the most part, listening to this CD is like watching the movie all over again, at least for 3 or 4 minutes. Favorites include: the pulsing insistence of "Speed", the heroic "Apollo 13", the deeply evocative "Crimson Tide" (including an excerpt from the Sailor's Hymn which was also featured in "Titanic"), and the spirited, glossy "Independence Day" theme. Listen to the tension build up and release in the excerpt from "Twister" and just try to refrain from humming along!
A great album for doing housework!

Telarc is one of the best, if not the best recording company of classical, jazz, and instrumental music. I have bought music with the Telarc recording label since 1984. Every CD I have from Telarc is flawlessly recorded with exceptional detail. The image is so clear, its as if you were there infront of the orchestra. This recording is no exception.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hold on to your woofers! March 31, 2002
Format:Audio CD
Great album with an esoteric mix: from the the Navy Hymn(Chrimson Tide) to rich orchestrations (Braveheart and Gettysburg) it has something for everyone.
If you have broad taste, you'll love this one but be warned- some of these tracks could turn older speakers into mush. Got a theater system with powered sub-woofer? Crank it and watch the windows pulsate with great sounds. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Mix June 21, 2007
Format:Audio CD
All the Reich Kunzel and CPO movie albums are well done, this CD is no exception. As with some of the others, there is no thematic link between tracks - raucus, pulse pounding goodies followed by soft melodic material. If the selection was a little more consistent, it would get five stars. That said, you really can't go wrong with Kunzel and the CPO - their execution is generally flawless. Worth buying.

2.0 out of 5 stars Normal stereo SACD not available June 22, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Unlike other SACD, this SACD doesn't contain normal stereo DSD file but only multi-channel surround DSD file. However, producer fogot there are several SACD players which can play stereo DSD file only such as marantz SA-15S2. More unfortunately, SA-15S2 isn't compatible to this SACD on its SACD-CD mode, and so, I have to set player to play CD as default.

I play it on Pioneer BD player for SACD multi-channel surround DSD file. Sound is interesting, energy, loud but no details. Bass from subwoofer is too artifical. That over bass doesn't occur in Stereo CD file. If you love Bang Bang, Wu..., Lung..., Big Loud sound effect, you can pay for it. Very disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've enjoyed this for years April 28, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I'm finally getting around to reviewing some items I've had for years. Amazon tells me I've owned this one for over a decade.

I still love to listen to this one when I get a chance. There are some great tracks from various movies, some of which I've never seen but still love the music. If you have seen the movies, the music will take you back like you're in them.

Definitely a great recording, good musicians, and well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary CD January 23, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I had the privilege of finally hearing this CD on a Blu-Ray player that supports this hybrid DTS audio disc. The extra "punch" in the surround tracks is unbelieveable and even an untrained ear will hear the difference over the regular CD tracks (which are still awesome).

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT SURROUND SOUND - THIS IS PCM STEREO SOUND ONLY!
This CD does not have a DTS 5.1 audio track, it's just PCM stereo sound (standard CD quality). Beware if you're buying this CD thinking this is mastered in DTS, because it's not!

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT SURROUND SOUND
Even though the Cover says " surround Sound" It is NOT. It's basic 2 channel Stereo W/CDA files!

The only reason I bought it was for surround sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Picture, Big Sound
Tough I was searching for DVD-Audio scores, this CD appeared as a must-have choice, its "simple" DTS sound ( :-D ) takes you to the core of the films which titles are included.
