Brilliant Australian country singer, August 2, 2003
This review is from: Big Sky Country (Audio CD)
Tania was born to sing country, being the daughter of Ray (a notable Aussie country singer) and the sister of Lee (Australia's leading current singer at the dawn of the new millennium). Tania's first album (December moon) was wonderful, but her second (Dancing on water) was even better. This is her third album and although I slightly prefer Dancing on water, this is not far behind.
The songs, all but one of them original and several co-written by Tania, generally have an upbeat feel to them. The only cover here is Drover's boy, a song I haven't come across before.
Contemporary Australian country is not stuck in the past although it is more firmly rooted in tradition than the Nashville equivalent. If you feel that Nashville has gone too far uptown but still recognize the need for music to progress, you may find that Australian country music has much to offer.
