As a preschool teacher for many years, I ordered this along with some others for our 'outer space' unit. It almost didn't get ordered because I thought it sounded too technical for 3 to 5 yr olds. Wow, what a surprise! It explains everything in extremely kid friendly terms, in an order that makes sense. It uses actual footage & computer animation, detailed enough but not scary. The kids want to watch it over & over. Preschoolers to adults will love this video. It's a keeper!

This video took my 3 and a half year old from a "trains-only" boy into the space age. While it would seem that much of the material is too technical for him, he loves picking up whatever can every time he watches it. He's probably watched the library loan video 20 times, so we're sure to buy it to have a favorite ready at any time.
It's educational and yet engaging enough that my other children and even other adults are sure to learn plenty, even if it's a repeated viewing.
I'm a stickler for videos that are fun or educational; this one's both!

My 3 year old son loved this video. We had just watched ten days of the last space shuttle mission on the NASA Channel and he was hooked on rockets and the space shuttle. When he showed him the video he begged us to put it on. Two weeks later, we are still watching this video at least once a day. The video is narrated by a child, which I thought was great. I actually learned a lot from this tape. Why can't they put this on DVD? My little boy now talks about docking rings and booster rockets and mission control.

This DVD has lots of great information for my five year old but, my two year old loves it too. He plays with his toy space shuttle and acts out the countdown. We borrowed it from the library on a whim and loved it so much we decided to buy it for our own collection.

Fantastic. Educational and yet I can't keep my 4 year old boy away from it. Excellent narration by older children. Just get it for your 4 yearold boy or girl.

MY GRANDSON, ANDREW, CHECKED THE VIDEO OUT OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARY. HE WATCHED THE VIDEO MANY TIMES AND LEARNED MUCH ABOUT THE SPACE SHUTTLE. THE ADULTS WHO WATCHED IT ALSO CONFESSED TO LEARNING THINGS. IT IS NOT JUST A "KIDS" VIDEO. ANDREW SUFFERS FROM AUTISM SO IT IS ALWAYS NICE TO FIND SOMETHING THAT HE CAN RELATE TOO. I ORDERED A COPY FROM AMAZON SO THAT HE WOULD BE ABLE TO WATCH IT WHENEVER HE WANTS.

My son loves this video and watches it over and over. It is narrated by children, so it reaches kids better. My son can quote things about velocity and friction and he is only 4. Parents will enjoy watching this video with their children. I have worked indirectly with the Space Shuttle for many years and still learned a lot from this video.

Our son loves this Video, and so do we. We've all watched it countless times, and still find the scientific, technical, and human achievement awesome and inspiring. It is filled with amazing details that you won't see anywhere else.
... the 'Columbia' ...is the 'star' of this video .... And so, this video becomes also a living memory of things that were, and are no more.

I bought "The Big Space Shuttle" for my 5-year-old girl who is completely fascinated by astronauts, rockets and space travel. She loves it and thinks "it's so cool." The fact that the narrator is a child also helped keep her attention. Best of all, the pilot and payload commander of the mission are women, which helps me to emphasize to my girl that she can do anything she wants -- even fly the space shuttle!

Since this is a documentary style, it is real and accurate. My 6 year old granddaughter was fascinated. My blind grandson (7 year old) enjoyed it because of all the real sounds/noises, especially the LAUNCH sequences. We have been learning about the solar system together, so this is one DVD in our new collection of space DVDs. Very well done. Since I work for NASA, naturally I enjoyed it.
