5.0 out of 5 stars Great!
This is just an hour of nothing but scenery from the Big Sur region of California, just as the description implies. No narration, no pointless features... Just Big Sur.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big Sur BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
Just received and watched "Big Sur:California Coast" - Excellent photography - Good music. The first thing I did was to look for the button that would separate the music from the magnificent sounds of nature. No separation possible. The scenes while beautifully photographed move much too quickly from one beautiful shot to the next. Instead of being soothing I felt...

If you are skeptical, however, watch this DVD, as it will take you through some of the majestic bliss that Big Sur has to offer. If you have already been there, this DVD is a must have, because it will remind you of how great this place really is.

The soft music that accompanies this production is very pleasing and offers an appealing sense of awe when cued to the video. The soothing audio greatly adds to the visual experience while not completely taking over.

This video contains the many various land and oceanscapes of Big Sur, including waterfalls, lush green hills, vast coastline, beautiful sunsets, wildlife, forests, and much more.

If you are a fan of Big Sur, or just nature in general, this DVD is a must have. You will not be dissapointed!

I must say this was all I expected and more. To hear the waves crashing the beautiful coast line with the perfectly matched soothing music. The production of this DVD is top notch and well thought out. For those that have been to the Big Sur get ready for a mental trip when you walked the coast. Those that have not been you will want to go when this is over so pack your bags, thats how good this DVD on Big Sur is in my opininion. You wont go wrong with this purchase its well spent money...I own Yellowstone which is wonderful also and just ordered the rest of the products by them: Yosemite, Glacier, Grand Canyon, National Parks of Alaska, Bryce & Zion

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic (A+), January 22, 2005
This review is from: Big Sur: California Coast (DVD)
This is a fantastic DVD trip to the Monterey coast. The QUALITY and BEAUTY of this DVD, is of the highest caliber! The music is a pleasent blend of classical selections, with a bit of 'new age' flavor.
You traval from San Semion, up threw Bir Sur, stopping at Julia Pfifer Burns State Park, Bixby landing, Point Lobos Reserve, 17-mile drive, and the Monterey Bay Aquiriaum.
Lots of waterfalls, redwood forest, crashing waves, airial shots, and wildlife. The sunsets and rises are out of this world!

A+

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Big Sur and this DVD is great!, February 6, 2007
This review is from: Big Sur: California Coast (DVD)
I camped in Big Sur regularly in the late 70's and early 80's and have lovely memories of it. I haven't been back for years. I saw this video in my Dr's office and fell in love with it. I didn't hear the sound/music since they had it muted, but the footage was absolutely beautiful!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Reminder of a one of a kind place, January 21, 2012

After dreaming of the trip up Highway One for 20 years I finally made it a couple of years ago. Of course no video, book or picture can capture the full essence of being in a place. The Big Sur Coast is wild and fairly isolated , I loved my trip, sights, sounds, smells, stop offs in small towns along the trip. My anticipation of 20 years was not disappointed. I ordered this dvd to remind me of my trip, because memory is so fleeting. No it is not the same as being there, but it is a lovely reminder, and jogs my memory of the places I saw, the towns I stopped in, the fresh strawberries and figs I purchased from a farm stand ,the satisfying fresh fish and chips I ate on a warf resturant in Santa Barbara, the wonderful smell of the ocean air, the fog, and the clearing of the skies, the sunsets, the places I stayed along the way, so close to the beach in some cases that I could hear the surf, smell it, feel the coolness of the early mornings from leaving my window open all night. To have this dvd to remind me of all those things and more is wonderful.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big Sur BIG DISAPPOINTMENT, March 26, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Big Sur: California Coast (DVD)
Just received and watched "Big Sur:California Coast" - Excellent photography - Good music. The first thing I did was to look for the button that would separate the music from the magnificent sounds of nature. No separation possible. The scenes while beautifully photographed move much too quickly from one beautiful shot to the next. Instead of being soothing I felt like I had just watch a music video from MTV or VH1. There are all well and good in their place. But I was looking for a soothing experience but ultimately felt like a marionette. I immediately went to my dvd supplier and looked up additional Ron Roy productions. They give you the option of natural sound and music OR Nature's own sounds alone! If you want postcard presentation buy Big Sur. If you want to be soothed buy Ron Roy.

1.0 out of 5 stars This video makes me NOT want to visit Big Sur, December 19, 2006

I wasted my money on this?

The video quality was horrible; no doubt filmed with someone's personal video camera. It becomes obvious that this is the case when you see the pan and zoom of the camera.

The editing was terrible. There are several places you can see that they tried to add too much saturation causing the poor video quality to be even worse.

The Hearst Castle segment was less than a couple minutes long. It is obvious that they did not have media access which would allow them to stage properly. In fact, you can see members of the tour that they were on.

There is a segment where they set the camera up in a car and drive aimlessly down the road to kill time. Why?

I could go on and on...

The impression of Big Sur that I had when I was done watching, is that it is a place that I don't need to visit in my lifetime. Having been to all the places they filmed, I can say forsure that they did not do Big Sur justice. Rent or buy another movie. This one is a waste.
