PreSchool-K-These oversized board books include the sharp photography and computer-aided design details that are DK signatures. Color and white backgrounds showcase each object for maximum contrast. The right edge is cut out to allow readers to flip to the desired letter or number. Alphabet is striking, depicting a life-sized cat, a looming tractor, and a school of tropical fish. In Counting, "one happy baby" is depicted on the first page, "two babies getting dressed" appear on page two, and, finally, readers are introduced to "ten babies pushing toys." The last three spreads feature 15, then 20, and finally "one hundred busy babies-try to count them all!" Each page begs to be pored over and discussed. Well-designed, eye-catching offerings.

Big simple pictures,

We used this in my two-year-old's speech therapy. It is exactly what we were looking for: big pictures with uncluttered pages. Some letters take a whole page, others only half a page. "B" (1/2-page) has a ball and buttons. That's it. Easy to focus on and easy to talk about. I will say they could have chosen different items for a few letters, like "J" only shows a jigsaw puzzle with the word "jigsaw." My family calls that a puzzle and it should be under "p." My son was proud when he began to know the words.
