5.0 out of 5 stars Where's the extra large grown up version?
Santa placed this great gift under the tree for my very active 7 1/2 y/o son. He received the black model, which appears to be identical to the purple other than the color of the platform. He's been practically bouncing off the walls ever since he opened them. In reality he gets between 6 inches to about 2 feet off the ground depending on how hard he jumps...

2.0 out of 5 stars Back away from the Moon Shoes...
First of all, I am a 13 year old girl weighing 155 pounds. When I got the moon shoes I was 12, with a size 10 shoe- that was the first mistake, anyone with over a size 8 1/2 womens shoes size is going to have a fun time trying to put those on. Size 10 is totally out of the question-you're toes hangover the end, so you're toes bend back everytime you take a bounce...

Santa placed this great gift under the tree for my very active 7 1/2 y/o son. He received the black model, which appears to be identical to the purple other than the color of the platform. He's been practically bouncing off the walls ever since he opened them. In reality he gets between 6 inches to about 2 feet off the ground depending on how hard he jumps.

The base is very heavy duty, and looks very similar to an automatic lawn sprinkler valve box. There is a foot platform suspended in the middle of the base by way of heavy rubber or polyurethane bands. The bands run through slots in the platform and attach at either side of the base by hooking over some plastic teeth surrounding the outside of the base. There are 12 points of attachment for each foot platform.

Some assembly is required, the most difficult thing is stretching the bands. Santa's elves pre-assembled my son's so they'd be ready to go as soon as he got them. I think he could have put it together himself in about 5 minutes.

The set comes with a 1lb bag of bands that are used in increments up to 5 per platform slot to accommodate the 60 - 160 + lb weight rating of the user. The 1lb bag of bands had 50 total bands. The weight chart on the instruction sheet lists up to 5 per slot, which would equate to 60 bands, so I'm guessing there must be replacement/upgrade bands available.

1 band per slot = 60 lbs or less
2 bands per slot = 60 - 100 lbs
3 bands per slot = 100 - 130 lbs
4 bands per slot = 130 - 160 lbs
5 bands per slot = 160 + lbs

I think the real limit with the design is the size of the user's foot. I have a size 14, and weigh 200lbs so I can't try it out. :-( It looks like a lot of fun, and my son has been having a blast with it.

It's a pretty simple toy, but my son loves it. Sometimes simple things are better. In fact he's been using it more than the Playstation 2 games he wished so much for.

4.0 out of 5 stars My kids rave for moon shoes!, November 6, 2005
This review is from: Moon Shoes - black (Toy)
My kids wanted moon shoes for Christmas but because of the varied reviews on Amazon I was leery of buying them. So I contacted our local TV station that does a "Try It Before You Buy It" segment on their Wednesday evening broadcasts. Well they wanted to have my kids try them so they bought two pair of moon shoes and brought them to my house on Friday. The kids were ecstatic! We put to the task of putting the shoes together. That was a little confusing. The cameraman had to help us! There are large black rubber bands that have to be attached to the bottom of the shoes. The weight of your child will determine whether you attach 1 to 5 bands in each section of the shoes. Once we put them together the kids had a ball. I was a little leery at first but they haven't taken them off their feet since they got them. I would say that they are a success!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun! But a few recommendations, July 18, 2006

Some reviewers here give these shoes a bad rap. OF COURSE you should wear a helmet and wrist guards with these shoes, just as you would with a skateboard. Then you won't be in danger of 'busting your head open,' like some reviewers warned. My 5 y.o. daughter and 8 y.o. son LOVE these shoes. They jumped and ran in them for hours - usually under my supervision. Two recommendations - 1) put on more rubber bands than recommended for your child's weight so they aren't so 'squishy', and 2) buy extra because they break kind of frequently. But well worth the active fun!

Size 10 is totally out of the question-you're toes hangover the end, so you're toes bend back everytime you take a bounce. Secondly if you weigh over 135 pounds, you barely get a foot in the air. Just to clear this up; these shoes are only for younger kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS!!!, April 29, 2005

This review is from: Moon Shoes - black (Toy)
I got these for my daughter's 8th birthday in Feb, and now (end of April) they continue to be used virtually every day. It is a little difficult at first to figure out who needs how many bands. (My children range from 3-16, the 3 year old doesn't do well without help.) But now, they all know how many bands they need. I recently purchased 5 more pair to have on hand for some birthday parties that my children will be attending.

These shoes are great. The other kids that wrote a review are not using these shoes right. You where socks and tennis shoes with moon shoes. If you use them right they will make you feel like your on the moon.I once bounced THREE FEET OFF THE Ground! You can use these inside and outside.there very stable. Thatis why it makes sense to call these shoes AWSOME!

This review is from: Moon Shoes - black (Toy)
Bought these last year for my 8 year old couch potato video game playing nephew. This got him off the couch and bouncing. One year later, and his Mom tells me he still plays with them every day.

Since he likes bouncing so much, I bought him the pogo stick this year. Hope he enjoys it as much as the Moon Shoes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty cool, February 12, 2007

This review is from: Moon Shoes - black (Toy)
I just don't understand why other kids aren't able to figure these shoes out. My daughter just barely turned five and picked out the purple moon shoes for her birthday. I'm a 26 year old woman, and I didn't have a single problem putting them together, it wasn't near as hard as other people have made it out to be. Now, I know that these shoes are for ages 7 and up, but I figured my energetic, boisterous wild child wouldn't have a problem. She LOVES them. I spent the first five minutes holding her hand and helping her balance, and she took off on her own after that. I will not let her wear them without supervision, as I'm a very responsible parent. She fell over a couple of times, but she's a kid, so she handles falls well. I don't see these shoes being any more dangerous than a trampoline. If my five year old daughter can handle these shoes, I don't see why anybody else can't. Just be a responsible parent and watch your kids closely, just as you would if they were on a trampoline.
